This week's meeting
Our meeting this week on Thursday 27th August 2015 will be held at the Adelaide Royal Coach Motel, 24 Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town at 7am for 7.15am start. $20 includes buffet continental and /or hot breakfast. Parking is available on site or on the north side of Flinders Street. The meeting is a Club Assembly, so we expect plenty of discussion of current and proposed projects
Good Guys BBQ

By now, you will have received an email asking you to sign up on-line for September. This on-line sign-up system enables you to see at a glance where volunteers are needed.
Last week's meeting
Our speaker last week was Peter Carey, of Glenelg Football Club fame, who spoke to us about Youth Opportunities Association, a South Australian not-for-profit organisation that delivers Personal Leadership Training to young people to help them make positive choices for their future. Peter is well known as having been Captain of the Glenelg Football Club, for which he played an extraordinary 447 games from 1983 to 1988, participating in 10 SANFL grand finals yielding three premierships of which he captained two. He was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Glenelg Hall of Fame in 2011. Peter was previously State Manager for CocaCola but has taken on the CEO role of this organisation. Operating largely in the northern suburbs and in country areas, the program aims to provide students with life skills, including planning, motivation, John Karran revealed that he used to do kick to kick lunchtime footy with Peter at Seacombe High, but that was about as far as John's football career progressed. On a similar vein, we also had a short talk from Ryan Champion, whom we sponsored to the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) this year - Ryan thanked the club for giving him the opportunity which he described as life-changing.

RI Zone 8 Director GuillerTumangan will be visiting both Districts 9500 & 9520.
District Governors Dick Wilson and Doug Layng will be spending some time with GuillerTumangan and his wife Leticia who will be visiting on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 September.
5. ARH Hat Day
Is your club prepared for its Hat Day celebrations on Friday October 9th and the opportunity to help Australian Rotary Health (ARH) continue its support programs toward prevention of mental health issues? ARH is the largest non-government organisation funding mental health research and prevention. There are many ways in which you can help:

Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money; wine raffle sheet); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes, the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on.

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's Father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.
Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon. ------------
In English pubs, Ale is ordered by pints and quarts....
So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them 'Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down. It's where we get the phrase: 'Mind your P's and Q's.' ------------
Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. ''Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this practice.
