Hopefully you’re all weathering the Omicron wave well enough. The streets are leaner than usual with social withdrawal as first defence, but life goes on of course and we’re most grateful for your wonderful Nurture Kit and Tongan responses.
Your Kit items and donated funds enabled us to fill 50 boxes on Sunday’s Cumby Hotel assembly line (see photos). Thanks to all who contributed in your various ways and also to Jo Fiedler from Adelaide Rotary. Jo, Kirsti, Katey, Paige, Stuart and Club Friends, Mayra and David pitched in to assemble and load them into Kirsti’s car for delivery with thanks to Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre frontline staff.
Regarding refugee mentoring, Katey’s rolling roster has been providing English conversation sessions on Saturdays with our Afghan family. The feedback is excellent as they engage on language and lifestyle topics in lighthearted Oz style. Saturday sessions include Katey, Paige, Kirsti, Margie, Chio and Vanessa (forgive any omissions).
Mid-week bushwalks with Abdullah for blokey English began last Monday with Richard and Rob. Do let me know if you’d like to join me next on Wednesday 16th February at 8am (to beat the heat and traffic), coffee after ~10:30 finish.
Thanks to all who helped with Rotary’s Tongan relief appeal via Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS). It’s shameless to say but also true that Rotary charities are exceptionally efficient in global comparison.
This Thursday morning’s 10Feb meeting will be Zoomed and Richard will email log-in details. Our guest speaker is Rohan Watts about ‘NBN Connections, Scam Awareness, Safety Smart, Smart Devices and Home Network’ - don’t miss it. Our 24th February breakfast meeting should be in person again - confirmed when closer.
Combined Area 12 Clubs’ Dinner - Wednesday 20 April
Area 12 of our District has 10 clubs: Adelaide, Adelaide Light, Adelaide Central, Adelaide Parks, Prospect, Regency Park and Walkerville Rotary as well as Adelaide City, Uni and Thebarton Senior College Rotaract.
Our Area 12 combined dinner is on Wednesday 20 April at the Adelaide Pavilion, South Terrace (6:30 for 7pm start, finish ~9:30). Please note the date change.
This relaxed, friendly and informal dinner includes partners and friends. The $55 ticket includes a 2 course meal and $5 donation to the Rotary Foundation. There's no official Guest Speaker - instead each Club will submit stories about ’My Best Rotary Moment'. Five people will be asked to share their five minute story about their best Rotary moment.
We hope for good attendance from our club, so please put it in your diary. More detail can be found via the booking link below:

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.
Begin with a five-pound potato bag in each hand. Extend your arms straight out from your sides, hold them there for a full minute, and then relax.
After a few weeks, move up to ten-pound potato bags. Then try 50-pound potato bags, and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-pound potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.
Once you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.
