Club Walk and Picnic last Sunday

Thank You to John W. for organizing the very successful hike and walk, followed by a picnic in the Belair Park attended by 15 enthusiastic folk including John & Deb, Angus & Helen, Fred & Barb, Margie, Stef, Bruce, Rob, Sally and daughter Katie & her family. Thanks to Sam Cook for providing their marquee which proved very handy although we avoided the morning showers.

This Thursday morning is a Coffee Conversation at the White Picket Fence in Dulwich from 9.30 am.

The following week we are meeting with Adelaide Parks on Wed. 9th. September at the Naval, Military and Airforce Club on Hutt St. for dinner. Please confirm your attendance with me by Tuesday lunchtime. Further details in this edition.

Guest Speaker for 9 September

Here are some details of our Guest Speaker for our Joint Meeting on the 9th of September, Rob.

Should be a great night and Jim Whalley should be a great draw-card for a top attendance by both Clubs.

Jim Whalley is South Australia’s first Chief Entrepreneur.

Jim is the Chair and co-founder of innovative defence industry company Nova Systems.

He is a former air force fighter pilot and test pilot and holds a Master of Business Administration, a science degree and has completed the Harvard Business School OPM Executive Education Program.

Jim is a member of the Sir Ross and Keith Smith Advisory Committee, the council of the University of South Australia, the board of the Adelaide Festival and a non-executive director of Australian Naval Infrastructure. Providing high level, independent advice on entrepreneurship matters.

Birthing Kits

Dear Rob,

Riverside Rowing Club (just off Montefiore/Morphett on the Torrens) has been booked so we can gather to package 400 birthing kits for sending to overseas locations like Papua New Guinea.

This combined Adelaide Light Rotary and Adelaide City Rotaract project will facilitate safe births, avoiding needless maternal and infant deaths or disease.

The doors will be open from 6 pm with a cash bar open and pizza served, from 6.30pm for a small cost of $5.00 per head. Once everyone has eaten, the assembly of the birthing kits will commence.

There is a free club car park and the club house has a balcony overlooking the Torrens river.

Bread Run

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting.
Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests.
Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriate persons.
Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computer set up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice.
Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting.
Rotaract: Meets alternate Mondays at 6pm (for a 630pm start) at the General Havelock Hotel in Hutt Street.
Bread Run: Sundays, meet outside Romeo's, North Adelaide at 4:55pm

Members rostered for Thursday morning duty are asked to be in attendance by 6.45am

If you cannot attend, please arrange a substitute
