Dear Rotarians and Friends
Nice to see everyone attend the planning meeting. Special welcome back to Di Casey.
The quiz night is coming up on Friday May 27th. Please book your tables quickly and bring any donated prizes at the next club meeting to Dean.
John Campbell spoke about the Membership information evening coming up on the evening of May 11th at 7pm. All club members were asked to nominate 3 members to attend the evening. To date 43 members have been invited (another 20 to be sent out) and the invitation is on our Facebook page. The meeting on May 11th will be in lieu of the meeting on May 12th.
Terry will speak about our fundraising activities, the night will be a showcase of what Rotary does both locally and internationally. We will make a donation to Soles for Souls and the Columbia project (Angus will present on this) as well as the Rotary Foundation (PDG Eric Russell will attend) and the End Polio campaign. These cheques will be presented on the night. Please bring a pair of shoes to donate on the evening. Shelter box will provide a display for the evening. Damien Lynch will present on Rotaract and what this has meant for him. John is developing a PowerPoint presentation which will run during the evening. The Humanity in Motion book will be provided to our guests. Rotarians are asked to attend from 6:15pm to help set up the displays, laptop etc.
This is a celebration and showcase event so please bring your partners. Please bring any old copies of Rotary Down Under magazine. Cost for members and partners are $28 per head. Prospective members will not be charged. All members will be assigned to meet and greet all potential new members. Please know your 'Rotary story' to share with guests on the night.
Don Tindale spoke about the changeover brunch and change management. Invitations to the brunch will be going out shortly. In terms of change management initiatives, we may look at changing the meeting formats to be more informal as well as projects that will interest newer members. Local projects, face to face community based projects may be what new members are looking for. Don has sent out a copy of the strategic planning information survey to all members to get some feedback which the new board will consider and develop the strategic plan. Don would like everyone to provide their feedback and input.
See you all next week where Cindee Richardson from Catherine House will be our guest speaker.
Thanks
Kind regards
Miriam

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.
The International Space Station is the most expensive object ever made by man. Hovering 380 kilometers above us, it is worth about 150 billion dollars.
The most expensive Bonsai tree in the world is Over 300 years old and will run you around 1.3 million.
The most expensive book in the world is the Codex Leicester of Leonardo da Vinci, a book of scientific writings by the famous geniuses, will cost you 30.8 million.
The most expensive watch in the world is the A. Lange Sohne Grand Complication. This immensely complicated (876 hand wrought parts, 7 complications and 14 functions) and precise watch can only be made by one man in the whole world, and it takes him a whole year just to make one! It can be yours, with some patience and $2.5 million dollars.
The most expensive jet in the world is the Airbus 318 Elite Private Jet and if you want it you better have 62 million and gas money.
The most expensive Cognac in the world is called Henry IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne (say that 3 times fast!) and a bottle costs no less than $2 million. That would be about $20,000 per sip.
The most expensive dog in the world is the beautiful, rare and huge Tibetan Mastiff puppy. This gorgeous hound is worth $2 million dollars.
The most expensive sword in the world belonged to none other than Napoleon Bonaparte, and will go for about $6.4 million.
The most expensive car in the world, currently, is the Lamborghini Veneno, costing 4.6 million.
The most expensive champagne in the world is the delicious Gout de Diamants Champagne, which was sold for 1.2 million. However, it is not the liquid that makes this bottle so pricey, but the bottle, which has an 18 carat white gold plate with a 19 carat diamond mounted in the middle of it.
The most expensive mushroom in the world is an Italian White Alba Truffle. 1.51 kilograms is worth $160,406.
The most expensive computer in the world is the huge Milky Way 28243 Supercomputer in Guangzho, China, and would cost about $400 million to recreate.
The most expensive viola in the world, the Stradivarius MacDonald Viola, made in 1719 and one of only 10 surviving violas made by the famous master Luthier. It was recently sold for $45 million.
The most expensive beer in the world is the Antarctic Nail Ale, if you want to try it, you better be prepared to spend $1,815 per bottle, so there better be a darn good reason for celebration.
