The sun truly shone on our long-awaited steam train ride from Mt Barker to Goolwa last Sunday. There was a steam loco up front, five carriages plus a buffet car and diesel loco behind for the first bit of the trip. Fred was in his element and can offer more detail about the rolling stock and history. Our front carriage of Rotary folk quickly settled into holiday mode as we slowly steamed through the now lush countryside, dropping the diesel loco off once it had pushed us over Philcox Hill. On the way back It slipped in behind again after Strath for a similar uphill nudge. It was a great day and an excellent idea, thanks Rob - the photos below tell the story.
Spring is on the way and with it, other social opportunities will arise. Meanwhile the ‘Guess who’ diners will get to know each other better on September 4th. There are also many project activities with a social aspect and Kirsti’s doing a superb job there.
At last Saturday’s ’Chat 2 Belong’ (C2B) gathering in Café Outside the Square, Alex offered to set up a ‘What’s App’ group so all C2Bs could communicate as needed between meetings. The language resources we can now cover include Spanish, Mandarin, Singalese, Hindi, Farsi and tourist French.
I expect we’re all interested in DNA and Dean has arranged an excellent speaker for this Thursday 26th breakfast meeting. Professor Adrian Linaker from Flinders Uni will tell us about DNA, which we all leave behind on everything we touch… don’t miss it. From Richard’s vocational and youth activity we’ll also have two guests - Ella Garrood and her Mum, Carly; Ella will share her Youth parliament experience.
Next Tuesday, 31st we have a full team for our Bunnings Mile End barbeque and hope the weather will be kind.

Hyde Park Rotary Club - Old Adelaide Gaol visit invitation

We meet at the Brompton Hotel at 12 pm for lunch and then make our way down the Port Road to the Gaol for our visit at 1.30 pm. We are doing the self-guided tour and we will probably meet up for afternoon tea at about 3 pm in the cafe or in the gardens if the weather is suitable.
We pay individually for our lunches at the hotel and on arrival at the Gaol ($13.50 per head).
If any of your club members wish to join us, they are very welcome to do so.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting. Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriatepersons. Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computerset up – Connect to projector. Switch on.
