Last Wednesday saw a very successful combined meeting with Adelaide Parks at the Naval, Military and Airforce Club with 18 of our members attending to hear Entrepreneur Jim Whalley present a very entertaining and informative talk about his life and Lot 14.

Tonight (Monday) I am off to the Adelaide City Rotaract meeting filling in for John W. who is recovering from his shoulder surgery. The guest speaker is Con from Toastmasters and I am looking forward to his address.

Last Saturday saw a great turnup of Rotaractors and six from our club to get stuck into the Catherine House working bee where we cleared vegetation from 5 small terraced properties. Their Amy organized morning tea and lunch which was very well received. There are many very good photos on the Rotaract Facebook Page, check them out.

This Saturday, Katey H has organized a second working bee with foreman, Kym Pedler leading the group in removing the huge pile of vegetation, spreading manure over very ordinary soil and hopefully laying garden irrigation.

This Thursday morning will be the regular Coffee Conversation at the White Picket Fence arriving from 9.30 am.

Our next formal meeting is planned for Monday 28th. September with Adelaide City Rotaract Club at the Riverside Rowing Club. Kirsti K. has organized a Birthing Kit Assembly evening and pizza and drinks will be available. Already 20 Rotaractors have indicated their attendance and I encourage members of our club to do the same please as we must know the number planning to attend.

Hat Day

In October, Australian Rotary Health encourages Rotary Clubs to get involved in Hat Day as part of the “Lift The Lid on Mental Illness” campaign.

On Thursday 22 October at our meeting, John Campbell, S.A. chair of ARH, will speak briefly on the work and research of ARH.

Please wear a hat to breakfast on this day, plus donate $5 to ARH for the pleasure of doing so (eftpos available). Be prepared to tell the story of your chosen hat........you may be rewarded!

Eastwood and Regency Park Rotary Clubs invite you to join a walk to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health Research Funds

Where: Victoria Park. Corner of East & South Terraces . Beaumont Rd (Start/Finish) (Parking: Beaumont Rd.)

Birthing Kits

Dear Rob,

Riverside Rowing Club (just off Montefiore/Morphett on the Torrens) has been booked so we can gather to package 400 birthing kits for sending to overseas locations like Papua New Guinea.

This combined Adelaide Light Rotary and Adelaide City Rotaract project will facilitate safe births, avoiding needless maternal and infant deaths or disease.

The doors will be open from 6 pm with a cash bar open and pizza served, from 6.30pm for a small cost of $5.00 per head. Once everyone has eaten, the assembly of the birthing kits will commence.

There is a free club car park and the club house has a balcony overlooking the Torrens river.

For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

Bread Run

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting.
Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests.
Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriate persons.
Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computer set up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice.
Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting.
Rotaract: Meets alternate Mondays at 6pm (for a 630pm start) at the General Havelock Hotel in Hutt Street.
Bread Run: Sundays, meet outside Romeo's, North Adelaide at 4:55pm

Members rostered for Thursday morning duty are asked to be in attendance by 6.45am

If you cannot attend, please arrange a substitute
