Last Thursday’s breakfast meeting at the Croquet Club drew a strong crowd to hear guest speakers on the ‘Voice’, Harper Robb and Will Taylor. It was a good chance to understand what’s fact and what’s opinion on this vexed topic. Other Rotary Clubs are now talking with Harper and Will to take advantage of their insights with diversity, equity and inclusion in mind. If you can access ‘The Monthly’, its 9 June article ‘The Voice, clear and simple’ by two eminent legal folk is also worth reading.
When you’re able, do ask Katey and Rob about the best bits from Rotary’s International Convention in Melbourne recently. With about 14,000 attendees from all over the world, ideas were flying thick and fast. It will take them weeks to debrief, so take advantage when you can.
This week should be a bumper fundraising week, book-ended either end by a Mile End Bunnings BBQ. Last Monday 12 June was unrelentingly busy, so the time flew as we raised a net $1,800 or so. This coming Saturday’s BBQ may be similar if the weather is kind. Whatever else, it’s clear our volunteers are definitely kind to us. So heartfelt thanks to those who are pitching-in. Without this steady effort, our projects to make a difference in the world would be severely constrained.

While on Afghan matters, though our formal mentoring of Erfan’s family has finished - there’s such a strong bond of friendship between those involved, that casual mentor activity continues. Chio and Kirsti helped Erfan’s wife Manizha improve her English last Saturday and the wider team of tutors continue. Thanks to Margie, Paige, Fatemeh, Katey and anyone else I should have mentioned 🙁.
This Saturday is our June Cuppa Conversation 10-11:30am Saturday 24th June at Botanic Garden’s Fibonacci Café. Our newest member and energetic organiser, Lili is organising it and you can find the Fibonacci Café using the map link here.

On Saturday July 29th there will be a tree planting event with the Council. It'll be from 930-12 at a site on Mann Tce in North Adelaide
It will run similar to last year, starting with a site induction and planting demonstration. They'll supply gloves and will have all the tools and plants ready to go on the day.
Come and join your local Rotaractors as we OP SHOP HOP through Adelaide City! Through local op shops around Adelaide!
Your $10 proceeds with your ticket will provide you with a goodie bag of snacks, but you're money will give back to the Community with all proceeds going to the Hutt St Centre!
We will meet at Cafe Troppo, for some fellowship and food and then walk and use public transport to take us to our first location- Salvos Adelaide!
On the day you can also donate your clothes to Salvos Adelaide in Whitmore Square! We will have a fun and relaxed day in the city! Everyone is welcome!

At the height of a political corruption trial, the prosecuting attorney attacked a witness. "Isn't it true," he bellowed, "that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?"
The witness stared out the window, as though he hadn't hear the question.
"Isn't it true that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?" the lawyer repeated loudly.
The witness still did not respond.
Finally, the judge leaned over and said, "Sir, please answer the question."
"Oh," the startled witness said, "I thought he was talking to you."
