Thank you to the members who were able to attend our special repositioning club meeting last Thursday morning, Kirsti & Angus who attended by zooming from the Riverland and the McLaren Vale and special thanks to Andries for facilitating the morning.
Here is a brief precis of the suggestions that were presented:
The twice monthly breakfast meetings with guest speakers will continue, but to update the Rotary offering for upcoming generations we could strengthen our project emphasis with some evening brainstorming (perhaps four times per year?), plus a Zoom meeting option to cater for our members who find regular breakfast attendance difficult, which should not impact on our regular attendance numbers. Thank you to Don T. who provided me with a very comprehensive list of completed club projects which I plan to take to the next meeting of our small sub-committee, which may assist with future planning.
The key takeout, to enable our club to remain viable long term is to be flexible.
John W. and myself are meeting with the Adelaide City Council this afternoon, Tuesday, to discuss the possibility of selling Christmas trees in the Adelaide Central Market. I have also approached OTR, who are considering our proposal.
Unfortunately, our Catherine House gardening project (MK2) continues to suffer delays, however Kym P. is considering organizing a replacement planting Saturday morning for our Mark 1 project where a number of the original plants have died.
I am very thrilled to announce that Stef starts at Westpac next week.
This week’s breakfast meeting will be at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel at 7.00am for 7.15am, where John Campbell will speak about Australian Rotary Health / Hat Day. Please remember to wear your favourite hat.
Share the Dignity is an organisation that works to make a real, on the ground difference in the lives of women experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or doing it tough and focus on ending period poverty in Australia. “It’s In the Bag” campaign runs from 20th to 29th November and is predominately a donation drive of basic essentials, period products and some special items which get delivered to registered charities to be distributed to those in crisis in time for Christmas.
We will be doing the adult bags and I ask that members, their friends, family and colleagues start collecting any of the following items:
Handbags or small female style backpacks that are new or if pre-loved they have to be in great condition, clean and no clear signs of use
Shampoo & Conditioner
Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Bodywash or Soap
Roll-on Deodorant
Sealed packets of pads or tampons (regular to super absorbency recommended)
They also encourage additional items that would make someone feel special such as makeup, accessories, moisturiser, facemasks, hand cream, handmade items, purses etc. Keep in mind, 'what would I like to receive during such a difficult time?'
Note - All items donated should be in their original packaging, sealed and in great condition.
The plan is to pool all donations by 19 November, and then pack the bags together at our meeting on Thurs 26th November. This aligns with International Day For The Elimination of Violence Against Women which is on the 25th November.

Proceeds to the Community Outreach Dental Program in Light Square. Here we provide free dental treatment to people who live in the Common Ground building and others in dire need. They are trying to bridge the gap between homelessness or distressing domestic circumstances and a meaningful life. They need their teeth to function again and be presentable for the workforce.

The Rotary Foundation has negotiated for Rotarians, their families, and friends to exclusively see the movie I AM WOMAN on the BIG screen. This will be your only opportunity to see the film at the cinema.
This fabulous movie will be showing at The Regal Theatre 275 Kensington Rd, Kensington Park SA 5068 on Saturday, 31st October 2020 at 5.00 pm. The early timeslot gives ample opportunity to go out to dinner following the movie.
This is a fundraising event for the End Polio Now Campaign, but will also be a great opportunity to get together.
Profits from ticket sales will go to your Rotary Club’s End Polio Rotary Foundation Contributions.
