Stories
President's Pen
Hi, Rotarians and Friends.

At last Thursday’s breakfast meeting we welcomed new member Elaine Reade, so please make her welcome at every opportunity.  Paul Jupp confirmed that our best speakers are often members giving us insight into their life and times and Paul’s was equally appealing.  Apart from Ag Science research, Paul is a woodworking artist with a black belt in Pyrography!  Commission a new pyrographed jewel box anyone?

Friday’s film night was a sell-out success and the draw card film (The Duke) amply lived up to expectations with a great time had by all.  Our next big social event is the combined Rotary/Rotaract Quiz night on June 3, so please gather up a table of 10 and book yourselves in here.

Our District’s President Elect Training Seminar was held last weekend and Rotary International’s theme for 2022/3 will be ‘Imagine’.  Incoming President, Jennifer Jones from Ontario, Canada used the John Lennon song to encourage us to dream big, then implement those dreams as we ‘Serve to save lives’.

Incoming District Governor, Paul Thomas from Wallaroo distils this as: continuing to end polio; promoting clean water, hygiene and sanitation; protecting our environment; empowering girls; engaging members while ensuring our future with youth in a spirit of fun and friendship.  In all this Rotary is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and we’re encouraged to apply that understanding to participant experiences.  See photo below.

Focusing on inclusion, Reconciliation week is coming up so please join some club members on a 2 hour guided tour of the River Torrens, Elder park and surrounds - learning Kaurna history, culture and achievements to aid the national reconciliation effort.  Our tour is 10 till noon on Sunday May 29 then lunching with Rotaractors who are doing the 2pm tour.  Ring me 0488 000 050 and join us… book here.

Looking ahead, we’ll have 4 dinner meetings a year on fifth Thursdays of the month.  The first being June 30 for our ‘Rollover’ dinner to welcome the new Rotary year and any new Club Directors.  Please add this to your diary - 6:30 June 30 at the Terrace Hotel with partners/friends encouraged along. Other 2022/3 dinner dates are Sept 29, March 30 and June 29. Instead of December 29, we’ll have a Christmas dinner meeting probably on 1 December.

There’s a Coffee Conversation 9:30am this Thursday 5 May at White Picket Café and our next Terrace Hotel breakfast meeting is 7:15am Thursday 12 May.

Best wishes, John

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.

Jokes Corner
A chap walks into a timber yard and asks for some two by fours.

The salesman asks, "How long do you need them?"

The chap answers, "A long time. We're gonna build a house".
