We’re a bit like a duck at the moment… busy paddling under the surface but all serene above.
The refugee mentor group is making huge progress in a multitude of small things for our grateful Afghan family. We’re taking them to Cleland on 6th March so they can see kangaroos, koalas, etc. You’re welcome of course but as it’s $30 entry, we’ll soon arrange a picnic soon on another day so you can meet and welcome them.
Community service planning is steadily beavering away and Vocational/Youth project ideas are also slowly germinating. In a few weeks we’ll need another Catherine House working bee, so watch that space. The Nurture kits we assembled were delivered and gratefully received at Hampstead this week - see photos below.
Internationally there’s quiet progress on the 3 staged water and sanitation project in Manatuto, Timor Lesté. This involves drilling a new bore close to the river bed, restoring the old bore and installing 3 new water tanks. There’ll be rainwater inflows from the main school roofs then gravity feed to the school taps from elevated tanks. More news in due course… see photo below.
Our combined clubs District Governor’s dinner is Wednesday 16th March at the Naval and Military Club (AdLight, Adelaide Parks, Adelaide Central and Adelaide City Rotaract). We’ll need to know final attendance numbers by 8th March but I’ll email about that separately.
In April our Area 12 Combined Clubs dinner is on Wednesday 20th at the Adelaide Pavilion. Do let me know the story about your ‘Best Rotary Moment’ if you’d like to offer one.
For Saturday 21st May let’s field a team or two in Adelaide Parks Rotary’s Quiz Championship. This will be good practice for the Quiz Night we’ll be running with Adelaide City Rotaract, probably early in June. That June event will be a big fundraiser for both clubs and we need to know if you’d like to help organise it.
With Covid in mind, this Thursday’s breakfast meeting (24th Feb) will be zoomed - Richard’s sent logon details. Coffee Conversations restart 9:30am on March 3rd and our next ‘in-person’ breakfast meeting is Thursday 10th March at The Terrace Hotel.
Combined Area 12 Clubs’ Dinner - Wednesday 20 April
Area 12 of our District has 10 clubs: Adelaide, Adelaide Light, Adelaide Central, Adelaide Parks, Prospect, Regency Park and Walkerville Rotary as well as Adelaide City, Uni and Thebarton Senior College Rotaract.
Our Area 12 combined dinner is on Wednesday 20 April at the Adelaide Pavilion, South Terrace (6:30 for 7pm start, finish ~9:30). Please note the date change.
This relaxed, friendly and informal dinner includes partners and friends. The $55 ticket includes a 2 course meal and $5 donation to the Rotary Foundation. There's no official Guest Speaker - instead each Club will submit stories about ’My Best Rotary Moment'. Five people will be asked to share their five minute story about their best Rotary moment.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting. Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriatepersons. Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computerset up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice. Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting. Rotaract: Meets alternate Mondays at 6pm (for a 630pm start) at the General HavelockHotel in Hutt Street. Bread Run: Sundays, meet outside Romeo's, North Adelaide at 4:55pm
