Last week’s Thursday breakfast helped keep members informed about the inner workings of our Club and provide an opportunity for discussion. If you’d like to become part of the Club’s Board please let me know. I’m pleased to report that Alex Yepes has offered to assist Bruce as Club Treasurer from June to September so Bruce can head off to see his son’s family in Norway. Well done, Alex. 😊
Last Sunday’s picnic at Mitcham with our Afghan friends went extremely well - see photos below. We enjoyed excellent weather, a shady spot in the park from which to enjoy its sunny attractions and a chance to mingle in delightful company. Perfect for Harmony Week!
We’ve another Fred’s Van this Wednesday 30th and Kirsti has that roster well in hand - if you’d like to become a helper, let her know. Some police and child safety checks are needed but hopefully all Club members will soon have these complete.
Di’s putting together our next Bunnings BBQ for Monday April 11th so do let her know If you can help. Thanks to these efforts, our fundraising is recovering and we’ll donate $2,000 to Ukraine’s Rotary District and bordering areas that are sheltering refugees. if desired, you can donate too by googling the Rotary Foundation and clicking on its Ukraine link.
It's not too late to buy tickets for Our District's area 12 dinner at the Adelaide Pavilion (car South Tce/Peacock Rd) on Wednesday April 20th - just click here
Our film night is ‘The Duke’ on Friday April 29th at Prospect’s Palace Nova theatre. It’s a charming tale about an English worker who stole a Goya from the National Gallery - featuring marvellous performances from Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren. Funds raised will support Afghan refugees, so please circulate it widely among your network - you can buy tickets here.
Covid masks will no longer be required after April 14th, which is the date of our next breakfast meeting. Being the Thursday before Easter, we'll seek confirmation of attendance and if it's low we may seek a different venue for this pre-Easter breakfast meeting. Meanwhile there’s a Coffee Conversation 9:30am this Thursday 31st at White Picket Café. ☕️
Do you want to be a more conscious, creative, and compassionate leader?
The future of effective and skilled leadership rests in knowing ourselves at a deep level, how our minds work, and how to develop the skill of being emotionally intelligent. Good leaders recognise that our most precious resource is the people working for and alongside us. How then do we learn to differentiate when we are caught in our egos, or truly listening to others and opening to other points of view?
Until we gain skills in reading emotions the odds are against us making good decisions for ourselves and those we are leading. Experts in decision making and business leadership have worked with Lifeflow to design a unique experience to help you make more considered and effective leadership decisions.
Understanding and applying meditation and mindfulness will allow you to open your mind to gain the overview on any situation you are dealing with – the big picture view. It enables you to listen, both to yourself, and to others. You are then able to make clearer decisions.
Who is this retreat for?
Existing or emerging leaders/entrepreneurs who:
are interested in or have some experience of meditation and mindfulness;
want to learn how the reflective process might guide them in their roles;
are looking for professional development in emotional intelligence;
would like to take time out to learn in a relaxed and informal context;
need to destress from their busy roles and reflect on how to be a good leader and make more effective decisions.
On this retreat you will learn:
tools for making good, conscious decisions, based on the discipline of decision analysis;
a map for understanding how your mind makes decisions, enhancing your ability to innovate and inspire;
an appreciation of the function and importance of values, both in decision making and in building an organisation;
knowledge of how the ego works, what it is for, and how it sabotages your leadership;
meditation and mindfulness skills for going beyond your ego view and getting the most out of your team;
skills for good communication, for listening to others and being open to their point of view;
to maintain greater focus leading to improved judgement and decision making; and
an increased ability to effectively deal with personal and workplace stress.
You will also have plenty of time to spend reflecting and relaxing in the beautiful natural environment of Tara Hills Retreat Centre.
Tara Hills is a private purpose-built meditation retreat facility with sweeping views, and clear starry skies. This special place gives you the space and time to reflect and recharge away from your constant day to day demands.
Immerse yourself in the retreat experience by taking in the views, native flora and fauna or walking the quiet roads around the property.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

I overheard two ambulance officers talking about the time they went to the aid of an elderly man. As one took down his information, the other opened his shirt to attach ECG cables.
"Any history of heart trouble?" asked the first ambulance office.
"None," said the patient.
Looking at the tell-tale scars of bypass surgery, the second officer wasn't so sure. "In that case," he said, "do you remember when the lion attacked you?"
