Our new incoming District Governor, Paul Thomas and his wife, Kathryn attended last Thursday’s Rollover dinner along with 30 guests, including several other Club Presidents and our Area Governor, Jeff Cluse. Around the world many Clubs are welcoming new Presidents. Our new Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones is the first woman in that role and her theme for ’22/3 urges us to ‘Imagine’ Rotary of the future. In our own club, let’s hope our new President improves on the last!
We also welcome new member Brian Harvey and his wife Carol Ganley. Brian brings a wealth of Rotary experience, so please make him welcome as he learns our ‘ropes’. Elaine is another new member we’re pleased to welcome, so find a chance to chat when you’re able. Otherwise, do tell me or someone on our Board, if you know anyone who’d benefit from joining us to share the Rotary experience.
Following the June 23 D’Arcy Walsh discussion about the Regionalisation Pilot program to improve support for Zone 8 clubs and members, I’ve emailed some information for those who couldn’t attend. Zone-wide approval is needed from ⅔ of our Pacific region clubs if it’s to proceed. So, by the end of the week, I’ll seek your opinion about whether you’d like our club to authorise commencement of the Pilot.
At our Thursday 14 July breakfast meeting, Nic Egan - Adelaide City Rotaract’s new President will speak with us about Australia’s voting system and its preferencing complexities. Also, our 28 July Terrace breakfast is a Club Assembly meeting. What’s this I hear you ask? First, there’ll be a quick update for members on Club initiatives, then we’d like to hear your ideas to enhance your own Rotary experience.
Apart from Fundraising, a major Club avenue is all our various community projects. So, if you’re not directly involved, why not come to Kirsti’s Community Service committee’s next meeting, 7pm on Tuesday 19 July. It flows on from the 6pm Refugee Mentors meeting in the Astor Hotel’s Pulteney Dining Room. Do join us and maybe order some dinner with us while observing proceedings.
Our next volunteer packing opportunity at Treasure Boxes in Edwardstown is next Thursday 14 July from 10 to 12. Please let me or Kirsti know if you’d like to join the team roster for that one.

Rotary’s partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) enhances our peace and conflict resolution efforts with data-driven methodologies and tools. IEP has done the research on how countries create and sustain peace, and it’s helping us to put this into action on the ground.
During the 2-day workshop you will discover the strategies and tools that can help people like you to build and sustain peace.
You’ll be provided with an understanding of the Pillars of Positive Peace and be empowered to go back to your communities as agents of change.
The emphasis of the workshop is real actions, led by participants. You will be taken on a pathway of discovery of IEP research, using the research to develop real and practical projects, and how to implement them. There will be a strong focus on interactive activities that emphasis peer to peer learning and encourage everyone to engage. As a result of participating in the workshop, participants will have the information and understanding to activate Positive Peace in their communities.
