As you know, COVID’s off the leash and we’re not meeting face to face until the risk reduces. Australia’s now in a policy-free zone with hospital systems under unique duress, so do avoid needing a hospital stay lest you get COVID there. Luckily for us, mid-summer generally means less sickness though Victorians may wonder why they bothered with prolonged lockdown.
Hopefully you’ve dodged COVID so far but if in doubt, choose bed rest and isolation. Despite the need to know overall case numbers, if you’re feeling sick then queueing for a test/RAT kit seems counterproductive until wait-times improve. Case numbers are thought to be 5 to 10 times more than reported.
COVID aside, our club’s Fred’s Van effort last Wednesday was much appreciated by the 60 or so who tucked into the free meal and coffee/tea/milo with copious sugar.
Saturday’s Halal BBQ gathering to meet our refugee family also went well. After a mizzling start to the day, the weather came though into sunshine. The refugee boys (4 and 6) had a great time testing all the marvellous playground options while mum, dad and both grandparents got to know each other via simple English, smiles and gestures. Generous food was well appreciated - our mentors went ‘the extra mile’ in quality and organisation - thanks to you all 🙏 😊.
The accompanying photo of mentors and refugee family is cautiously shared with you on the understanding that you won’t share that photo elsewhere. Privacy matters because extended family members are not yet safe.
This Tuesday there’s zoomed meetings for Community Services and also Refugee Mentors, as our comradely work continues despite relentless COVID. If yon virus had emotions, it might be chuckling right now… but Rotarians aren’t easily deterred. However, we decided not to bother with a zoomed casual breakfast intended for Thursday 13th at Bici.
Stay safe until next we meet, either virtually or in person. It’s a chance for any books you’ve not yet read or for some binge viewing not yet enjoyed… maybe the dog will benefit? Ours is 😉.
Combined Area 12 Clubs’ Dinner - Wednesday 23 February
Area 12 of our District has 10 clubs: Adelaide, Adelaide Light, Adelaide Central, Adelaide Parks, Prospect, Regency Park and Walkerville Rotary as well as Adelaide City, Uni and Thebarton Senior College Rotaract.
Our Area 12 combined dinner is on Wednesday 23 February at the Adelaide Pavilion, South Terrace (6:30 for 7pm start, finish ~9:30).
This relaxed, friendly and informal dinner includes partners and friends. The $55 ticket includes a 2 course meal and $5 donation to the Rotary Foundation. As February 23rd is Rotary's birthday there's no official Guest Speaker - instead each Club will submit stories about ’My Best Rotary Moment'. Five people will be asked to share their five minute story about their best Rotary moment.
We hope for good attendance from our club, so please put it in your diary. More detail can be found via the booking link below:
