For those who missed my email dated 26th. May, it is my very sad duty to inform you that one of our founding members, Dr Philip Harding (AM) passed away on Tuesday 25th. May. Phil was President in 1987-1988, was a very active member and until quite recently Phil managed our Guest Speaker Roster with professionalism and enthusiasm.
Thank you to Fred and Barb Field for organizing a beautiful camellia plant which they delivered to Margie Harding on behalf of the club.
Margie Harding rang me to let me know that Phil died peacefully with her by his side and to thank the club for the lovely camellia.
The funeral service is to be on Friday 11th. June at 9am at St Francis Xavier CatholicCathedral, 39 Wakefield St. Adelaide.
Yvette Reade notified me last Wednesday that Tony has suffered pneumonia for the last month and that she was expecting him to be admitted into a nursing home in the coming days. On behalf of the club, I offered our very best wishes to Tony and Yvette. Tony was our club's inaugural President (1986-1987) and is a Past District Governor.
Remember to email me if you can join us on Sunday 1st August for a wonderful Train Trip from Mount Barker to Goolwa and back and family members and friends are most welcome. More details in this edition.
On behalf of the Community Service Committee, new director Kirsti is organizing for our club to be involved with the Rotary Bushfire Recovery Fencing Working Bee at Tilbrooks Winery in late July or early August, the weekend date to be confirmed.
Another initiative that Kirsti and her team are planning for our club and the Rotaractors is to be rostered on a three week cycle to help on Fred's Van (Vinnies). It will involve a three-hour commitment on a Wednesday evening for a team of seven. Please contact Kirsti if you are able to volunteer, even if spasmodically.
Regarding Catherine House Garden Project (Mark two), Kym Peddler informed me today that the concreting work at the Hallifax addresses has finally been completed and he and Katey will organize dates for some Saturday morning working bees to allow us to complete this project.
Considering the awful weather conditions, last Tuesday's barbeque at Bunnings Mile End was a success and thank you to Di and all of the volunteers who raised a profit of $730.00.
A reminder that our Changer Over Dinner is planned for Thursday 1st. July at the Sage Hotel

As you know, Rotary International has now adopted ‘Protecting the Environment’ as a new Area of Focus. You are cordially invited to the Australia/New Zealand zoom Launch of this new Area on the 4th June – the day before World Environment Day – at 6pm AEST UTC+10. The launch will feature PRIP Ian Riseley and Juliet Riseley, Dr Roger Blakeley from Wellington NZ and Prof Lesley Hughes from Macquarie University, Sydney.
During the launch, there will be a showcase of Environmental projects already underway in New Zealand and around Australia (in most States) so some of your Districts will be featured.
We are always looking for more projects to showcase in the future, so if you know of such a project already happening in your District wanting recognition, please ask the organisers to contact us at ESRAG or contact me.
We would appreciate your help in promoting this important event.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

Airborne approximately thirty minutes on an outbound evening flight, the lead flight attendant for the cabin crew nervously made the following painful announcement:
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm so very sorry but it appears that there has been a terrible mix-up by our airport catering service. I don't know how this has happened but we have 103 passengers on board and, unfortunately, only 40 dinner meals. I truly apologise for this mistake and inconvenience.
When passengers' muttering had died down, she continued.
"Anyone who is kind enough to give up their meal so that someone else can eat will receive free, unlimited drinks for the duration of our 5 hour flight."
Her next announcement came 90 minutes later... "If anyone would like to change their minds, we still have 40 dinners available."
