Shayla Platt, an NYSF sponsored student before COVID, is now finishing Science at Adelaide Uni. Shayla was spoke at last Thursday’s dinner about unconventional learning - logic with room for intuition. While helping endangered Orangutan in Indonesian Borneo, she has a thriving STEM for Early Learners venture here. It offers creative ways for kids in their early years to get artfully involved in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (i.e. STEM). You can help by donating via this link.
At the same meeting, we inducted Liliam Osorio as a new member of Club.
Club Treasurer, Bruce McDonald was busy last week. We donated $1,000 each to Australian Rotary Health (ARH), Shelterbox and ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children). Our club member and Past District Governor John Campbell is on the ARH Board. We also gave $3,000 to the Rotary Foundation - rated world’s best charity for the last 15 years. Finally, our $3,500 donation to District 9560 means they can start ordering materials to build Covalima birthing clinic’s water system in Timor Lesté.
While marvelling at Bruce’s financial efficiency before he raced off for family time in Cleve, spare a thought for your Club Directors - busily writing their end of year part of our Club’s annual report. You’ll get a copy at the 29th June Changeover Dinner in the Caledonian’s lovely Barton room - book by replying to Yvette’s 25th May email.
Last call to attend our District 9510 Rotary Volunteering Expo on 3rd June 2023 in Bonython Hall. It’s free and open to the public with interesting exhibits and engaging speakers. Our very own Erfan will be speaking at 2:30pm! A Celebration Dinner follows at 6:30pm in the National Wine Centre… you can register for either right here.
This Thursday 1st June is a mid morning coffee conversation at White Picket café.
At our Thursday June 8th breakfast meeting we’ll hear two young lawyers, Harper and Will explain some facts about the proposed ‘Voice’ to Federal parliament from. Rotary encourages Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and is apolitical, so this topic sticks to the constitutional facts for a clearer Referendum picture.
Our June Cuppa Conversation is 10-11:30am Saturday 24th June at Botanic Garden’s Fibonacci Café. Our newest member and energetic organiser, Lili is organising this one with more detail on how to get there as we get closer. Below are a couple more photos from our recent successful Cuppa Conversation at Bocelli's.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.
Two workers - one big and strong, the other small and weak - are on a building site.
The small chap says "I bet you $20 that I can push something to the end of the yard in my wheelbarrow and you won't be able to push the same thing back."
