What’s been happening Rotary-wise?  Your Club Board had its monthly meeting last Thursday and there’s much in play right now that’ll take a while to unfold.  Tuesday this week we hosted another Bunnings BBQ… hopefully more profitable than our previous Tuesday slot.  Wednesday night we’ll be managing another Fred’s Van operation and on Saturday night, our ‘Guess Who’ diners will venture out.
 
Kirsti’s Community Service Committee met last week and activity is rolling on in that quarter.  Expect to soon hear about activity to prepare 30 ‘End Trachoma’ Toiletry kits.  if you’re a competent needle-worker, please let Kirsti know ASAP as one task is making 30 drawstring cloth bags.
 
Angus’ International committee endorsed the Timor-Leste water and sanitation project at Manatuto and an initial $2,000 payment will soon be sent.  This, along with some contributions from other District 9560 clubs should enable water tanks to be installed in time to catch the wet season rains.
 
On the fundraising front, we’ve a Grange raffle about to start and Rob is now having the raffle books printed.  Please start thinking about your social networks and when you might best take along your raffle books as you venture out.  It was a significant part of last year’s revenue and we hope to be even better this time.
 
There was great interest in DNA at last Thursday’s breakfast meeting. Dean arranged Professor Adrian Linacer from Flinders Uni who spoke about DNA with its tenaciously invisible signature we each leave behind on all we touch.   It was interesting to hear how it’s used forensically and also under what circumstances it can survive over time. 
 
AdLight Rotarians of long-standing renewed friendship with Carly Garrood (nee MacDonald), a Club member about 15 years ago.  Carly and her daughter Ella joined us for breakfast where Ella shared her Youth parliament experience in a quietly confident speaking style she didn’t realise she had.  Another example of the value in the Youth service work of Richard’s committee. 
 
Otherwise, put Saturday 18th September in your diary for some Bushfire recovery fencing work 9am till about 3:30pm at Tilbrook Estate Winery in Lenswood.  Morning work followed by lunch and wine tasting that Tilbrook will provide!  We can help arrange transport if desired.  Next breakfast meeting is 9th Sept, Coffee Conversation this week.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about  the speaker prior to the meeting.
Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests.
Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriate persons.
Furniture: Flags; banner display;  Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computer set up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice.
Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting.
Rotaract: Meets alternate Mondays at 6pm (for a 630pm start) at the General Havelock Hotel in Hutt Street.
Bread Run: Sundays, meet outside Romeo's, North Adelaide at 4:55pm

Members rostered for Thursday morning duty are asked to be in attendance by 6.45am

All eyes were on the radiant bride as her father escorted her down the aisle.
 
They reached the altar and the waiting groom.
 
The bride kissed her father and placed something in his hand. The guests in the front pews responded with ripples of laughter. Even the priest smiled broadly.
 
As her father gave her away in marriage, the bride gave him back his credit card.
