Our combined Quiz Night with Adelaide City Rotaract was an outstanding success last Friday. About 170 people had a great time happily donating to help Ukraine. Sincere thanks to all who contributed in their various ways, particularly to Paige from our Club and incoming Rotaract President, Nic. Past Rotaractor, Emmanuel did a marvellous job as MC. See photos below.
Those of you who volunteer for Fred’s Van will notice there’s now a new van as Rob’s crew experienced last Wednesday June 1 (see photo). As we enter the chilly season, the beanies Alison’s friend has freshly knitted will be particularly popular.
Di and Rob’s BBQ volunteers helped Norwood Rotary at Bunnings Mile End last Friday. Next Monday 13 June, we have our own Club BBQ to deliver. Though a Bunnings BBQ price rise is well overdue, the steady stream of BBQ revenue forms a reliable base to our fund raising, so many thanks to all our stoic volunteers. Also, our pallet of Watervale riesling is due for delivery this week.
Rotary International wants to improve support for clubs and members to connect with more volunteers, develop leadership skills and collaborate within our communities to improve the world. Some Rotarians from our Zone 8 (Australia, NZ and Pacific Islands) have laid the groundwork to decide how best to do this. Rotary International will authorise a Regionalisation Pilot program for our Zone, if most Clubs agree. To help us understand what’s involved, ROMAC Chair, D’Arcy Walsh is guest speaker at our June 23 breakfast meeting. I strongly urge all members to attend this, as we’ll need to vote on it.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the core of Rotary values and we’ve just had National Reconciliation Week. So, at this Thursday’s 9 June breakfast meeting, Katey and Rotaractor Bernie Barrett will help us explore the Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country.
Finally, please bring your partner and join us at our Club Rollover Dinner on Thursday evening 30 June - you can book here.
Kirsti is doing a drive for Fred's Van given the weather has turned and as whenever we go out there we are always asked for the following:
Good quality warm blankets (can be old in good condition, or new)
Sleeping bags (can be old in good condition, or new)
Socks (full length, not ankle) - Men's and Women's (new only)
Please bring in your donations to a breakfast meeting and pass on to John or Rob, or to a community service meeting. There is no set deadline but we will collect for about 1 month or so.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

Mr. Johnson was overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet.
The doctor said; “I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least five pounds.”
When Mr. Johnson returned, he shocked the doctor by having dropped almost twenty pounds.
“Why, that’s amazing!” the doctor told him. “You did this just by following my instructions?”
The slimmed down Mr. Johnson nodded. “I’ll tell you, though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day.”
“From hunger, you mean.” “No,” replied Mr. Johnson, “from skipping.”
