President's Pen

Last Thursday morning a small group had a pleasant coffee conversation at the Stables which included past member, Dr. Alan Gale.

The Rotary High Tea held at the Riverside Rowing Club on Sunday afternoon was a great success raising awareness and funds for Mental Health. Our club members included John and Julie C., John and Lyne K., Katrina B. and myself.

This week our regular fortnightly meeting is on Thursday morning at the Royal Coach.

The working bee at Catherine House on Saturday was a success where we made great progress with the landscaping of the rear garden. The transformation was remarkable and we are very lucky to have Kym providing his vision of the project. Thanks also to his son Corey for cutting the pavers to size to complete the paving under the pergola.

Kym's grandson Aron showed his ability with the pick and Vince Ball showed his expertise in assisting with installing the watering system.

This coming Sat. morning (20th/10) we are planning another working bee and are seeking volunteers please with the emphasis on more planting.

Our barbeque at Bunnings at Mile End was cancelled yesterday (Monday) due to the high winds and is now set down for tomorrow Wednesday after Di and myself quickly made lots of calls and put a new roster together.

Our next Board meeting is tomorrow evening (Wed.) at 6pm. at the Royal Coach.

Bogata Student Program

Dear Angus, Dear Helen, Dear Members of our Partner Rotary Club of Adelaide Light,

We send you our greetings and best wishes for your success in your Rotary activities. As I Told you in my last email, we had our meeting with 10 students last September 30th. It was an important opportunity to exchange points of view about the importance of Rotary as a Solidarity Organisation, its different Programs around the World and , the relations among the different Clubs.

Specially ,students admired the effort of Rotary for eliminating the POLIO in the world, the possibility of giving  water to poor populations, to give food to children in conditions of vulnerability and give education to young boys and girls in different Countries, such as Colombia, specifically to the students of Miramar, Suba,  through the collaboration  of the Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Australia during ten years with scholarships for preparing young student to work at SENA, in technical and technological areas according with requirements of our Country.

Be this the best opportunity to express to all the Members of the Rotary Club of Adelaide Light, our Partner Rotary Club, specially to ANGUS TUCK our gratitude for your effort and confidence with our Rotary Club of Bogota Suba, for helping more than 150 students, among them, more than 100 students who finished their studies and are working now.

With our best regards,

Gabriel Martinez Morales, Blas Iannini, Jairo Carrillo, Ernesto Ramirez, Aura Aponte, Rosalba Aponte, Hebert Carrillo

Dear Gabriel and dear  Members  of the  Rotary Club of Bogota Suba ,

Thank you  for your email with news  your 30th of September meeting with the scholarship students. From your account an inspiring meeting for the students!

We are very proud and privileged to be participating with you and your members in the scholarship programme for the past 10 years. Our members greatly value our partnership and the opportunity to have contributed in a small way to the scholarship programme. It is quite humbling to think that the project has changed the lives of 150 students over the 10 year period and the credit goes to your and our Rotary Club members who have continued with enthusiasm to support the programme.

I am sorry that I couldn’t be there in September but hope to be there as I mentioned before in the new year.

Bruce McDonald will soon be sending the next contribution of $4250.

With our Best Regards from RC Adelaide Members and also from Helen

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

Jokes Corner

A man and woman are standing at the altar, about to be married, when the bride-to-be looks at her prospective groom and sees that he has a set of golf clubs with him.

"What on earth are you doing with those golf clubs in church?" she whispers.

"Well," he says, "this isn't going to take all afternoon, is it?"
