Thank you for your feedback via the member survey that fished for meeting preferences. In a nutshell, preferences were either side of breakfast and dinner with a skew towards ‘dinner is best’ (43% for ⅔ dinner, 33% for ⅔ breakfast and 24% 50/50). Regarding expected attendance, 60% said evenings all or half the time and 35% said breakfast.
As to where we’ll meet, the croquet club was 76% agreeable ($20 with food/coffee, $5 without - detail to follow). For evenings, 57% like the Naval and Military Club and 33% don’t mind (4 menu options @$30). The Astor and 7 Stars is preferred by 27% and 55% don’t mind.
So, let’s try a 50/50 blend of breakfast and evening meetings and move towards a ⅔ dinner mix over time. Rob has been sleuthing our options and there will be more as his research is complete. For now, our next meeting is at the South Tce Croquet Club for breakfast next week, Thursday 9 February 7am for 7:15. This will be a project discussion meeting.
Community Service had a meeting last week to get activity under way again for the coming year. In short, Cuppa conversation was well attended in Nov at Ginger’s in Goodwood. Next one is Sat 25 Feb also at Gingers. Some irrigation work at an affordable rate may soon be possible for Catherine House. Meanwhile, we’ll take some time to evaluate our preferred approach to our next refugee mentoring chapter.
Club funds are healthy, so well done Rob, Di and all the fund raisers and also to Bruce and Alex for keeping our numbers in order. Paul J seeks members for his International Service team with several Timor Lesté projects to be evaluated and prioritised - please offer some help there. Youth Service activity will pick up once the school year settles down.
It’s a coffee conversation this Thursday February 2 at White Picket Café in Dulwich. Also, Di has been organising our next fund raising BBQ at Bunnings Mile End on Monday 13 February. Please help with this, if you’ve not volunteered already. Meanwhile, do spare a thought for Yvette’s recovery - give her a cheery call. Otherwise, I hope you’re enjoying this strange summer weather.

McLaren Vale is renowned for its excellent shiraz and this Chalk Hill Shiraz represents wonderful value, normally $22 per bottle, our club's fundraising offer is just $150.00 for a dozen. ($12.50 a bottle)
This delicious, easily drinkable wine is clean and smooth without unpleasant tannin aftertaste, so it's rapidly becoming a favoured wine.

Larry was a newspaper photographer, and was scheduled to meet a plane on the runway to take him on a job.
“Hit it,” said Larry climbing into the first plane he saw on the runway. The pilot took off, and was soon in the air. “OK,” said Larry, “fly low over the trees over there, I want to take a few pictures.”
“What do you mean?” asked the pilot.
Larry looked at the pilot and answered a little annoyed, “I need to take some pictures for the newspaper, so please…..”
There was a long pause, before the pilot asked in a shaky voice, “you mean you’re not my pilot instructor?”
