Stories
President's Pen

Last week at our meeting we had a working bee, with Rotarians assembling the remaining artificial hands bought by the club for the “Hands On” project. We were assisted by facilitator Linda Sweeney and these hands are now ready to be sent, with a team, to Sri Lanka, Laos or Cambodia where they will be fitted to land mine victims and others in need, in these countries. In time we will receive confirmation of their destination and perhaps contact from the recipients themselves. A job well done Adelaide Light!

On Friday 6th April our members, along with City of Adelaide Rotaractors,  will be heading to Calperum, near Renmark for the weekend. Calperum forms part of the Riverland Biosphere Reserve in the Riverland area of South Australia. Our work there will include placing and filling water bags for new trees, planting ground cover and having a look at what has been achieved so far in the promotion of the conservation and sustainable development of Calperum.  Please let John Karran know if you plan to be there for any part of the weekend as he has kindly offered for a cost of $30 per person to cater for the entire weekend, payable now. You will be required to  supply your own bedding and towel. Talk to other members who have participated in previous Calperum weekends to gain an idea of what you will be experiencing, but it is certainly another way that we as Rotarians can make a difference.

City of Adelaide Rotaract are holding a Quiz night on Friday 25th May at Pultney Grammar School, South Tce., Adelaide and will be looking for support from our club – please diarise this date as we will be organising some tables for this event.

Next week our speakers will be the Christine Xu and Shayla Platt, the two students our club sponsored to attend the National Youth Science Forum in January 2018. It will be our opportunity to learn first hand what this opportunity meant to them.

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.
