It’s a busy week. The joint project with Adelaide City Rotaract to install a Share the Dignity period product vending machine is now complete at Wonggangga Turtpandi, a Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Health Service in Port Adelaide. It dispenses free #PinkBoxes of 4 tampons and 2 sanitary pads for disadvantaged women and girls and will be maintained by Share the Dignity Ltd. A report is being complied for District Grant reimbursement of half the $10,000 cost shared with Rotaract.
Kirsti, John and Julie Campbell, Fatemeh and I did the Fred’s Van run last Wednesday night and what a flash new van it is! We were spoilt for the roominess of this smart transportation… see photo attached. By the way, Fatemeh is one of our enthusiastic volunteers who helps at BBQs, Fred’s and even Treasure Boxes. Apart from her willingness to help, Fatemeh is creatively artistic and would enjoy a chance to chat.
A volunteer packing team of Rob, Julie, Fatemeh and I helped out at Treasure Boxes in Edwardstown last Thursday and what an eye-opening operation it is! Now we understand it better, we expect to field a rostered team of volunteers each month on a Thursday from 10 to 12, the next occasion being 14 July. Do let Rob or Kirsti know if you’d like to join the team roster.
Adelaide Rotary’s D’Arcy Walsh discussed with us the Regionalisation Pilot program to improve support for Zone 8 clubs and members. For those who were unable to attend last meeting, I’ll soon send some information so we can all to understand this. Then I’ll seek your opinion about whether you’d like our club to authorise the Pilot to begin. Zone-wide approval is needed from ⅔ of our Pacific region clubs.
Released from COVID-imposed travel constraint of the last two years, Club Treasurer, Bruce has now left for a prolonged European visit seeing his son and family in Norway. In his absence, Alex has kindly stepped in as Club Treasurer. Many thanks, Alex! Now, if we can just get the bank to behave…
Regrettably, Katrina Ball has resigned from the Club and we thank her for her past service, which includes a year as Club President. Katrina felt older members were not sufficiently valued and was unhappy that information about Club activity wasn't well enough shared. I obviously regret this perception and will work to overcome it. Our Club is indeed in a challenging transition but I hope we can stay the course to emerge stronger for it.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our Club Rollover Dinner this Thursday 30 June. The Club’s annual report will soon emerge for your perusal.
Best wishes and Happy New year!
from John

Rotary’s partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) enhances our peace and conflict resolution efforts with data-driven methodologies and tools. IEP has done the research on how countries create and sustain peace, and it’s helping us to put this into action on the ground.
During the 2-day workshop you will discover the strategies and tools that can help people like you to build and sustain peace.
You’ll be provided with an understanding of the Pillars of Positive Peace and be empowered to go back to your communities as agents of change.
The emphasis of the workshop is real actions, led by participants. You will be taken on a pathway of discovery of IEP research, using the research to develop real and practical projects, and how to implement them. There will be a strong focus on interactive activities that emphasis peer to peer learning and encourage everyone to engage. As a result of participating in the workshop, participants will have the information and understanding to activate Positive Peace in their communities.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

A man was chosen for jury duty who really wanted to be dismissed from serving. He tried every excuse he could think of but none of them worked.
On the day of the trial, he decided to give it one more shot. As the trial was about to begin, he asked if he could approach the bench.
"Your Honor," he said, "I must be excused from this trial because I am prejudiced against the defendant. I took one look at the man in the blue suit with those beady eyes and that dishonest face and I said 'He's a crook! He's guilty!' So, your Honor, I cannot possibly stay on this jury!"
With a tired annoyance the judge replied, "Get back in the jury box, you fool. That man is the defendant's lawyer."
