Fred (or Rob as his wife, Barb calls him) gave us a glimpse of his lifelong passion for buses in his speech to the club last Thursday. From his early years, Fred took readily to buses. Being allowed reset the destination display winders as a boy, then driving buses later, once down through Hills with dicey brakes, Fred lapped it all up. If you want some SA bus history, Fred’s your man.
The other Rob is our Mr Everywhere and he put in another diligent gardening effort last week, helping plumber, Cory restore some neglected irrigation and gardening work for another Catherine House property.
With our other volunteers on Monday, Paul Ensor proved his diligence dispensing silky customer service behind the counter at Bunnings, Mile End. See photos below. BBQ takings were down early on the wet, weekday Monday till the sun eventually helped rescue our revenue - many thanks to our willing volunteers.
Remember the photo of Paul Jupp’s clever pyrography work a few weeks ago? With a similar subject, Yvette also illustrates artistic flair in her attached painting. Who’d have thunk it…? Some lights out from under bushels and something to chat about further with them.
Three special events are coming up soon. First is our Club’s AGM on Thursday 24 November over breakfast at the Terrace Hotel. Di, will send an email next week about that agenda to elect officers for 2022/3.
Next is the annual Auld Teapot Sporting Challenge vs Adelaide City Rotaract, playing croquet again this year. It’s on Friday evening December 9 on Beaumont Road, Adelaide - let’s hope we can wrest the teapot trophy back again this year! Book your tickets here.
Third is the 10th Birthday of our daughter club, Adelaide City Rotaract on Wednesday 14 December at the Gilbert Street Hotel, 88 Gilbert St in the city. Tickets are $25 each (buy them here), including dinner platters then buy drinks from the bar.
A fourth, less heralded special event is the Life of Brian (Harvey) after our AGM at breakfast on Thursday 24 December. Like many of us, I’m sure you have bait on your breath waiting for Brian to reveal all! Till then, this Thursday’s Coffee Conversation is at White Picket café in Dulwich.
On Saturday 26 November 10-11:30am is our next ‘Cuppa Conversation’ at Hutt St Cibo.
