President John is currently overseas pursuing his passion for walking in several different countries and so I am stepping up to the plate in his absence.
Last Thursday a small group met for our fortnightly Coffee Conversation which included Graham Smith and it was terrific to catch up with him.
The next day four of us helped out the Norwood Club with their monthly Friday Barbecue at Bunnings at Mile End on a very wet day which curtailed trading. However, it proved to be a bonus as Di had to cancel our regular monthly Monday (today) BBQ at Mile End as unfortunately for the second month in a row we were unable to produce sufficient volunteers. Many of our members are travelling at present, escaping from Adelaide's cold weather.
I was able to catch up with past member Feisar, last Friday for coffee who hopes to join us for breakfast on Thursday 25th August.
Our next Breakfast meeting at The Terrace Hotel is this coming Thursday 11th and please remember to let me know if you are attending so I can inform the Terrace of the correct number.
Kirsti has organized the next Community Service meeting at the Astor Hotel on Tuesday 16th Aug. at 7pm following Katey's mentoring group who meet at 6 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend Kirsti's meeting, however please let her know if you plan to join her and the hotel expects participants to order a meal.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an announcement over the intercom, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number 293, non-stop from New York to Los Angeles. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and uneventful flight. Now sit back and relax - OH, MY G-D!"
Silence followed, and after a few minutes the captain came back on the intercom and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier; but, while I was talking, the flight attendant brought me a cup of coffee and spilled the hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!"
A passenger said, "That's nothing. He should see the back of mine!"
