Sally and I returned on Saturday morning on the Ghan from Darwin which was excellent.
We had spent a brief week in the Kimberley staying at the Berkley River Lodge.
This morning on behalf of Adelaide's Coast FM. 88.7, I attended the annual National Volunteer Week Parade commencing at the Torrens Parade Ground and concluding at Victoria Square. It seemed that almost every SA. voluntary organization was there, except Rotary and I hope that next year our club can fly the flag for our wonderful service group.
I was very sorry to hear that last week’s breakfast meeting at the Ibis was bumped into the restaurant and that Phil had to postpone our guest speaker. However, it was great that Don Tindale was able to attend and thankyou to Julie for steering the morning.
This was followed by our club's monthly board meeting which Julie kindly chaired, where they discussed the current unsatisfactory situation with the Ibis. Due to their increased commercial popularity the Ibis are only prepared to give us two days’ notice that our booking is confirmed which is obviously not acceptable to our club. Therefore, John and Julie explored an offer made to us by the Stamford Plaza who wish to have one Service Club based at the Stamford. Their offer is very attractive including matching our current breakfast cost and I will inform all members of our plans going forward.
I can confirm that this week’s Wednesday Evening Dinner Meeting will be at the Ibis commencing at 6.15pm.
The following week, Thursday 30th. May, will be a Coffee Conversation at the Velo under the grandstand at Victoria Park.
Rotary Service Using Vocational Talents & Interests
Service in Rotary takes many forms and one of the most enriching forms of service and an opportunity to learn more about Rotary at a different level, is to serve via the many District Committees using one’s vocational talents and interests.
Currently, as we transition from one Rotary year to the next and look towards District 9510 a year later, there is an opportunity for a person or persons who may have an interest, talent or background in insurance and risk management to serve with our existing and developing team in this established area.
Whilst an insurance or risk background will assist, it is not essential as processes are well established; having a strong interest in the field and in supporting Clubs by helping them to implement established processes under the guidance of the existing team is all that is needed.
Should you or anyone you know have a desire to serve the Clubs via the District using your interests or talents in this important District function area, please advise DGE Jane Owens by email on dg19-20@rotary9500.org or by telephone on 0438 844 485.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.
