As I mentioned last week, if you’re not already directly involved why not come to Kirsti’s Community Service committee to better understand what’s happening there? It meets next at 7pm on Tuesday 19 July, flowing on from the 6pm Refugee Mentors meeting in the Astor Hotel’s Pulteney Dining Room. Do join us and perhaps order some dinner with us while observing proceedings.
Our Bunnings BBQ last Monday was reluctantly cancelled because of some last minute volunteer losses due to COVID infections or close contacts. The current COVID wave is gathering pace here but Di expects our next BBQ on Saturday on 30 July will make up for last Monday’s setback. So, please keep 30 July in mind until Di next calls for volunteers.
This Thursday’s 14 July breakfast meeting features Nic Egan - Adelaide City Rotaract’s (almost) President who will tell us about Australia’s voting system and complex preferences. Our 28 July Terrace breakfast is a Club Assembly meeting where, after a quick member update on Club initiatives, we’ll seek ideas to enhance your own Rotary experience.
Our next volunteer packing opportunity at Treasure Boxes at Edwardstown from 10 to 12 this Thursday 14 July may have happened by the time you read this. If so, look out for the next one but either way, please let Kirsti know if you’d like to join the team roster.
John and Julie Campbell are taking 7 months leave of absence to decide about their future Rotary experiences. They expressed concerns with some aspects of the Club to the Board and want some thinking time. The Board has digested this with some adjustment but we generally believe we’re on the right track.
Please feel free to express any comments or improvements you’d like to see at our Club Assembly of 28 July, augmenting our April member survey. The current Board is serving the Club well but some change is always healthy, so new Club leadership members are needed over time. Please do let me know if you’re interested.

Rotary’s partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) enhances our peace and conflict resolution efforts with data-driven methodologies and tools. IEP has done the research on how countries create and sustain peace, and it’s helping us to put this into action on the ground.
During the 2-day workshop you will discover the strategies and tools that can help people like you to build and sustain peace.
You’ll be provided with an understanding of the Pillars of Positive Peace and be empowered to go back to your communities as agents of change.
The emphasis of the workshop is real actions, led by participants. You will be taken on a pathway of discovery of IEP research, using the research to develop real and practical projects, and how to implement them. There will be a strong focus on interactive activities that emphasis peer to peer learning and encourage everyone to engage. As a result of participating in the workshop, participants will have the information and understanding to activate Positive Peace in their communities.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting. Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriatepersons. Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computerset up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting.
