Stories
President's Pen
Hi, Rotarians and Friends.

As you can see from the photos below, last Thursday we inducted new member Fatemeh Zarei.  As a ‘Friend of Adelaide Light’ she’s already been an active regular volunteer at BBQs, English tutor for our new Aussies and also with Treasure Box.  The beatific Fatemeh is both artistic and scientific, so do ask her to tell you more when you next meet to make her welcome.

The photo below of last Saturday’s BBQ shows some PR signage as Paul provides the human interest.  We returned to revenues of years past and our mix of Rotarians and energetic volunteer ‘Friends’ truly hummed.  Fatemeh made her creative mark withe sauces while Lilli brought energy and efficiency to my midday shift, pleasantly surprising customers with her speedy ‘snag’ delivery.  Natalia and Andrea were similarly lively in the next shift as we sold out a tad early.  We thank our volunteer friends for their time and energy and we do enjoy those occasions to work together.

Last Thursday’s Club Assembly went well with constructive insights forthcoming under Richard’s reliable stewardship.  Those of you who couldn’t attend can still send your thoughts through to Richard before he collates a summary steering us toward the Club we all want.  While we wait, I encourage you to view this newsletter as your weekly source of Club information while engaging in Club activities as often as you can.

Keeping new members in mind, we’ll offer half price annual Club subscription in the first year for new members from 1st July this year.  So if you know someone for whom Club membership would be mutually beneficial, please invite them to a meeting or Club event.  As they get to know us and experience the Adelaide Light magic, they may decide it’s a good fit for them.

At our next August 11th Terrace breakfast, Dean Sullivan has some stories covering his 40+ US visits over the decades and the experiences/changes he’s seen.   Then on August 25th, Margie will give us a glimmer of her ‘life and times’.  These are always interesting to hear and I’m sure Margie and Dean’s talks will pleasantly surprise us.

Between now and 27 August, I’ll be dodging viruses in Madeira, North Albania and the Italian lakes… while thinking of you of course!  Rob will kindly step back into his well-practised President role for a few weeks.  Among other things, I expect you’ll eventually hear from him about a social event to celebrate spring.

Best wishes, John

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.
