Ian Steele, from Kickstart For Kids, was an inspiring speaker at our breakfast meeting last week, as he explained how and why he began the program, how it continues to evolve and the difference that monetary donations and volunteering make to the success of the program. He provided us with the following details of Kickstart for Kids:
- Provides 50,000 breakfasts every week in 360 primary schools utilising 800 volunteers
- Runs a mentoring program
- Conducts Vacation programs – Camp Kickstart
- Provides Scholarships
- Costs $1200 to run a breakfast program in a school
Sunday Night Bread Run – Calling on any Rotarians, Partners, Friends of Adelaide Light Rotary and City of Adelaide Rotaract who are able to donate an hour of their time once a month, or every six weeks, to be placed on a roster to collect bread from Baker’s Delight and deliver to Ronald McDonald House, Moore St Centre and Catherine House on a Sunday night from 5pm to 6pm (usually it takes less time). You would be working in a team of 3-4 people. This is a very valuable local community program which Adelaide Light has been carrying out for many years and we wish to continue to provide this food to the agencies who depend on us. However, as happens, we are now in desperate need to add more people to the roster. Please consider if you can assist and if so, contact Richard Jarrett or myself.
Calling for applications for young people to attend RYPEN – Rotary Youth Program of Enrichments is an annual 3 day residential camp for 14-17 year olds, sponsored by Rotary Clubs, within Rotary International District 9500 (SA/NT) to develop and empower young people. It will be held this year at Nunyara Conference Centre in Belair from Friday 6 April to Sunday 8 April 2018. If you know a young person interested in attending the camp please get in touch with Don Tindale, Vocational and Youth Team Leader.
The Clipsal Car Park is a good fundraiser for our club and Rob is calling for volunteers on the mornings of Sat 3rd March and Sunday 4th March, finishing at lunchtime or when the carpark is full. The work is not arduous but we do need sufficient volunteers on each shift to make it work well. BYO chair, hat and water.
