As Thursday Sept 22 is now a National Mourning holiday, our next Club meeting is the combined dinner with Adelaide City Rotaract at 6pm on Wednesday 28 Sept in the Astor Hotel’s Pulteney room. Please let Rob know whether you are attending or not. This Thursday there’s a ‘Coffee Conversation’ at Dulwich’s White Picket Café.
This Monday’s Bunnings BBQ was our first week day since new pricing with a much improved result. Thanks to organiser Rob and volunteers Don, Alison, Graham, Yvette, John, Fatemeh, Liz, Dean, Lilli and Keith. Angus was a late withdrawal due to an unexpected gall bladder operation and we wish him comprehensive recovery.
On Tuesday 6 Sept Erfan spoke to popular acclaim at Regency Park Rotary about his family’s forced exit from Afghanistan and preceding events (photos below). Many in Oz are unaware about the plight of most Afghans. Unfortunately, the Taliban now seem entrenched with heavy support from major powers opposing the west.
Last Wednesday, Angus, Paul Jupp, Yvette and I reviewed our international service project options. We’re focused close to home in Timor Leste and had donated $2,000 towards water tanks at Manututo School on its north coast (see map below). Also, Angus found a way to transport his SACE’s pre-loved English teaching books to Dili. While he was District Governor of 9560 including Timor Leste, Kirsti’s Dad with Mum, Karen, identified the need for school desk furniture in Manatuto. So Paul is now helping to evaluate all our international project options.

Our Mentoring and Community Service groups next meet on Tuesday 20 September at 6pm and 7pm respectively in the Astor Hotel’s Pulteney Room. Members are welcome, so let Kirsti or Katey know if you want to attend.
