President's Pen
Hi, Rotarians and Friends.

The BBQ picnic Rob arranged last Sunday was most successful.  Though Father’s Day, there was still a strong turnout enjoying the excellent location on the Torrens that Rob had found.  The weather was most favourable and a good time was had by all.  We discovered Madra is Irish/Gaelic for dog and despite patient entreaties by Vanessa’s Madra, Rob is not quite a dog lover…  but as he’s grandpa to Katey’s dog ‘Pebbles’, I remain optimistic.

Our club volunteers are all set for the Treasure Box visit this Thursday 8 September.  Mentoring and Community Service meet next at 6pm then 7pm respectively on Tuesday 20 September.  Members are welcome to join in, so let Kirsti or Katey know if you wish to attend.  Our next Chat 2 Belong will be on Saturday 24 September from 10 till 11:30am at my house, contact Alex if you can come.

Thanks to Yvette, Elaine and Rob working the lunchtime Bunnings BBQ shift last Friday for Norwood Rotary, raising an extra $317.  Rob’s also filled our next Club BBQ Mile End Bunnings roster on Monday 12 September for a consequent revenue boost.  Thanks in advance to Don, Rob, Alison, Yvette, Fatemeh, Angus, Dean and me as well as Honorary member Graham Smith and Club ‘Friends, Lilli and Keith.

From July ’22, the Australian Rotary Foundation Trust has new bank details when you donate to the Rotary Foundation (e.g. Centurions, Paul Harris Society members and major donors).  You must now use BSB: 342 011 and a/c # 663499001, adding under the description line your Rotary ID #, name and AP or FP (for annual Fund or Portfolio Plus respectively).

At this Thursday’s 8 Sept Terrace Hotel breakfast meeting, Rob will explain the ‘History of Radio in South Australia’.   As forecast in our ‘Club Consultation’ summary, we’ll also bring you up to date about Service Committee activities.

Meanwhile some photos are attached of Bruce’s Norway visit and family hike as well as Di’s WW2 bunker experiences in the English Channel Island of Guernsey.

Best wishes, John
More travels
Member Di Lane has been visiting Guernsey in the Channel Islands (between England and France) over the last week.  As you will see below, the coast of the island is dotted with fortifications that Germany built or added to during their occupation of the Channel Islands in World War II.  Guernsey is characterised by exceedingly narrow roads and signs in the local version of French.

Meanwhile, Bruce McDonald is holidaying in Norway with family, which has included strenuous hikes with grandchildren to high places.

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.

Jokes Corner
My Grandson made the mistake of telling me I was being over dramatic, so I just changed the WiFi password.

We'll see who's over dramatic in about 5 minutes!
