Last week’s Fred’s Van went well once again. Also our BBQ shifts last Friday helping Norwood Rotary fulfil their Bunnings commitment kept our fundraising till ticking over. Thank you to all the volunteers who pitched in for both these events.
Seven of our Club members attended the District 9510 Rotary Conference in the Barossa at Tanunda last weekend. As usual there were some wonderful speakers and Police Commissioner, Grant Stevens was a popular one. Katey and AdCity Rotaract’s Santhny spoke to encourage replicating Reconciliation Action Plans among Clubs.
District Conferences offer an uplifting experience and deeper insight into the enormous breadth of Rotary. So, I encourage all of you to consider attending the conference next year. The photos below convey some of the atmosphere at last weekend’s Conference. The Quiz Night featured creative dressmaking using newspaper and there was enchantment to be had at the Masquerade dinner. 🦹♀️
Please gather a crowd for our film night, ‘The Duke’ with Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren on Friday April 29th at Prospect’s Palace Nova theatre. It’s a charming tale about an English worker who stole a Goya from the National Gallery. Funds raised will support Afghan refugees, so please circulate it widely among your network - you can buy tickets here.
Adelaide City Rotaract Club is having a ‘bring a friend’ meeting next Monday 11th April, 6 for 6:30pm in the back room at the General Havelock Hotel. If you know anyone in the ideal 20-30 age group as a potential Rotaractor, please bring them along and see for yourself how energetic they are.
Our next Breakfast meeting is Thursday April 14th when Stuart Marshall will chat about his life experiences, so don’t miss that one at the Terrace Hotel, usual time. There’s also a Coffee Conversation 9:30am this Thursday at White Picket Café. ☕️
Train ride Mt Barker via Strathalbyn to Goolwa Sunday 1st August Leave Mt Barker @ 10am via Strathalbyn to Goolwa for 4 hours to mooch/shop, pub lunch or picnic/playground by the river then back to Mt Barker by 6:05pm. Train: $44 each, kids $24 Puff up Philcox Hill, down Mt Lofty Ranges east escarpment, past long abandoned century-old stations and across Angas River to historic Strathalbyn settled by Scottish migrants in the early 1800s. Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriatepersons.
