President's Pen
I must thank all club members who attended last weeks Club Planning Meeting and voiced their ideas and suggestions of projects and activities they would like to see our club become involved in, as well as continuing on with existing and established programs.

As President, I feel it is imperative that while currently actively engaged in serving the community both locally and abroad, that we also continue to look forward to ensure we are always meeting the expectations of our members as to what assistance we may want to provide to others in the future to achieve our goals, whilst maintaining both our enthusiasm for working and our fundraising ability. This ensures continuity of activity within the Club even with annual changeover of club personnel.

Following is a list of suggestions put forward by members :
   - Volunteer grant $500 annually
   - Shelterbox purchase $1200 annually
   - Fighting fund $1000 - to be used if a disaster occurs
   - Kickstart For Kids - $1200 donation which would supply breakfast to a school for a
      Year
   - Dr James Muecke -$1000 for Sight for All for eye surgery in indigenous and third
     world communities

Not all of these projects may come to fruition but depending on funds available it does give us all an idea of priorities as our members see them. Naturally this is not a finite list and will continually be shaped and fine tuned.

Current programs to continue to support and even expand upon:
   - Colombian Project
   - Bread run
   - NYSF
   - RYLA
   - RYPEN

Our current project of erecting a pergola, establishing a garden and watering system and paving at Catherine House will be costed shortly and then once the budget is approved it will commence. It will be a very hands on project over two or three weekends for all club members, partners and Friends of Rotary.

Thought for the week:
Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.

Rohingya Refugee Project report
This is the thank you and final report from the donation of $1800 our Club made for the Rohingya Refugee Project. Our donation was then combined with the Group 1 clubs to enable the purchase of 2 solar units for the health centre.

"Since 25 August 2017, targeted violence against Rohingya communities in Rankine State, Myanmar, has forced 671,000 people - mostly women and children - to flee their homes. This exodus has become one of the fastest growing refugee crises in the world.

UNICEF estimates 1.3 million people are in need, amongst both the refugees and the host community.
With your contribution, we were able to provide solar energy systems to operate two 24-hour treatment clinics which were essential during the diphtheria outbreak which began in November 2017.

We are very grateful for your support to Kopernik, your contribution has impacted countless peoples lives."

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
