We’re in the midst of our busiest time for club fund raising, so thanks to all who are involved. Activity started ramping up with raffle ticket sales, dotted with frequent Bunnings BBQs that picked up again after the COVID crash. Current Christmas tree sales are going well and will be concluded this weekend.
Our community service has been bowling along at speed for many months now. It offers ample opportunities for members and ‘Friends’ alike to be involved in making a community difference. Other service avenues are also gearing up as we work within COVID constraints. Our initial contribution to the Timor Lesté water and sanitation project may eventually grow into more direct involvement. Local Youth and vocational projects are brewing and our joint Adelaide City Rotaract ‘Share the Dignity’ project work may soon begin.
With all this activity it was definitely time to party… and this we did last Friday evening! There were over 30 at our combined Rotary/Rotaract ‘Auld Teapot’ Christmas sporting challenge to enjoy the croquet opportunity in the lovely South Terrace parkland setting. Once the sun dipped low it became chilly but conviviality ruled, as did the dominance of Adelaide City Rotaractors who came away winners.
Most tried their hand at croquet and quickly found the game engaged their interest. Despite competitive spirits, the Rotary way prevailed and a good time was shared. Rob’s buffing of the old silver teapot paid off and we reluctantly handed it over to Rotaract’s safekeeping until next year’s tussle. Till then, you might ponder a sport to suggest.
This Thursday’s breakfast meeting (16th Dec) at the Terrace Hotel will be the last for 2021, so do come if you can. Our guest speaker will help us better understand the experiences that drive refugees to leave their home. Understanding this will help prepare us for the empathy needed with the refugees we’re about to mentor in the coming year.

However, Yvette wanted to add, "the play of the day went to President John Wotherspoon when he demonstrated how to jump a ball through the top of the hoop to create a backspin that propelled the other ball backwards out of the hoop and successfully gaining the point with his croquet ball going through for the win. Very impressive!"
