This Thursday’s breakfast meeting guest speaker is Erfan Abidi from the Afghan family we’re mentoring. It should be an especially good club gathering with a chance to meet Erfan if you’ve not had the pleasure and to understand the Afghan situation better. The terrible war in Ukraine dominates global news but forsaken Afghanistan equally deserves our attention.
On the fundraising front, Monday’s Bunnings BBQs keep things gently ticking along and our gritty team of BBQ helpers are much appreciated in this. Rob’s neighbour, Fatemeh has been volunteering a few times and the photo below shows her with stalwarts, Bruce and Di enjoying the beautiful sunny day between snag sales. A few dedicated AdLight BBQers even helped out Norwood Rotary last Friday… above and beyond indeed!
Our next big fundraiser and social event is Friday June 3 for our Rotary/Rotaract Quiz night, so please contact your friends and book yourselves in here. If you book a table of 10 you’ll get a 10% discount, so gather up your mates for a team to blitz the trivia!
Alison and I visited Adelaide City Rotaract Club on Monday night at their new home, the Cumby Hotel. President Santhny inducted a new member, Sean Robinson (see photo). Their new Board also introduced themselves as some energy gathers for the year ahead with Nic Egan as President. Do turn up at their Monday night meetings on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month… they always like to see Rotarians along and it’s good for us to experience their enthusiasm.
If you’d like to help with some tree planting along the River Torrens this Saturday 14 May, let Kirsti know and turn up at 9:30am under the Hackney Rd bridge. Wear enclosed shoes and a hat and rain jacket to suit the weather… implements will be provided.
Otherwise, keep Thursday 30 June free in your diary for our ‘Board Rollover’ dinner and bring your partner to welcome the new Rotary year at the Terrace Hotel. After this Thursday breakfast where Erfan will speak, there will be a Coffee Conversation 9:30am on Thursday 21 May at White Picket Café. See you soon.
Kirsti is doing a drive for Fred's Van given the weather has turned and as whenever we go out there we are always asked for the following:
Good quality warm blankets (can be old in good condition, or new)
Sleeping bags (can be old in good condition, or new)
Socks (full length, not ankle) - Men's and Women's (new only)
Please bring in your donations to a breakfast meeting and pass on to John or Rob, or to a community service meeting. There is no set deadline but we will collect for about 1 month or so.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.
