Don’t forget to book your spot at our Club Rollover Dinner on Thursday evening 30 June. It’s keenly priced and you can bring a partner - book here.
Some members will recall highly regarded 2015/6/ Club President Miriam Silva, who spent 6 months fighting an aggressive cancer 5 years ago. This experience inspired her to be there for others as they’d been for her during that time. On the recent Queen’s birthday weekend, Miriam was awarded an AM for her significant service to the multicultural community and women. Well deserved, Miriam! 😘
Last week’s breakfast meeting was most informative despite technical glitches Richard eventually solved with his characteristic patient tenacity. So, thanks to Katey and Bernie we now have a better grasp of Acknowledgement of Country and related issues (see photos below). My own take-out is… do it with a personal touch from the heart but not so frequently it becomes meaningless routine.
Kirsti is planning a volunteer packing opportunity to help Treasure Boxes Thursday 23 June or 14 July from 10am-2pm at 6/1-5 De Laine Ave, Edwardstown. Another option is the Tree planting day in the Hills on Saturday 2nd July. Please let Kirsti know ASAP if you’d like to do either of these.
On the fundraising front, Monday’s BBQ was an outstanding financial success on a sunny public holiday with plenty of hungry folk in ‘fix it’ mode. Our generous and dedicated volunteers experienced the busiest day we’ve ever seen with non-stop orders putting everyone (but particularly the chef) under constant pressure. Heartfelt thanks to everyone involved!
With another fundraising project, the club’s pallet of Watervale riesling is selling fast as just 10 of our 64 dozen pallet are left to sell. Quite good for just a week of sales… it will be good to finish putting labels on but please keep selling our remaining cases so we can turn full profit.
D’Arcy Walsh, Rotary’s ROMAC Chair is guest speaker at our June 23 breakfast meeting to explain a Regionalisation Pilot program that aims to see how we might improve support for Zone 8 clubs and members. If most Clubs agree, Rotary International will authorise the Pilot to begin. I strongly urge all members to attend this 23 June meeting, as we’ll need to vote on it before October.
It’s Coffee Conversation week… 9:30am this Thursday at White Picket Café, Dulwich.
Best wishes, John
