I hope you’re holding up well in this loosely self-imposed COVID defence lockdown. Diligent mask-wearing, social distance and ventilated areas seem the go and SA is safer than most. Even so, as social beings we all need a healthy dose of social contact. Luckily, we’re in the heart of southern Australia’s great weather till about May, so outdoorsy activity is readily available.
Our club doesn’t meet next till a zoomed 27th January breakfast time slot - those details will be sent later. Meanwhile, club committees are quietly getting along with their planning work, eventually emerging as activity to engage us all in our various ways.
In last week’s PP, I misled about zoomed meetings for Community Services and also Refugee Mentors being last Tuesday, it’s actually this Tuesday 18th…. so sorry about that. As Alexander Pope observed in 1711, "To err is human…” but you can forgive and that’s divine!
Among other frailties, Alison and Paul’s pedestrial challenges are beginning to right themselves. So, we’ll soon see them more up and about. I understand they’re even having a crack at an eScooter later this week!
Talking of hale and hearty, we need volunteers to reassure Di for our next Bunnings BBQ on Monday 14th February. Some of our usual A-team aren’t available, so please quickly get in touch with Di to ease her rostering mind and restore sound sleep. While working at diversifying our revenue base, we can’t take these BBQs for granted - they underpin all our community, international and youth services.
One community service is our refugee mentoring of the Afghan family I’ve spoken about before. We’re helping with their costs to get an SA driving licence. Katey and Margie recently visited to give some language coaching, which mum and grandma particularly valued. There’s obviously many compounding challenges for a family forced to uproot and transplant itself in a new country at short notice.
Stay safe until next we meet, either virtually or in person. Your unread book stack may be shrinking. Mine’s not… but I can report our pooch (Fergus) is enjoying more walks and doggy playgroups. 🐾
