At our last meeting everyone voted to raise the fortnightly attendance fee from $18 to $ 20.00 per head which includes the plated breakfast of your choice.
Our guest speaker this week will be the well-known colourful former ABC sports announcer, Peter Walsh. Peter covered football, cricket, the Olympics (and follows Hawthorn).
The next Board meeting is to immediately follow the meeting at 8.35 am. in the same room.
Last Friday, John W., Bruce, Di and myself met for lunch to discuss fundraising and see how we can address the Bunnings BBQ, $12 - 14,000 shortfall and are now investigating some of the suggestions. If anyone has a brain wave, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Next Thursday, 3rd.Sept, will be a Coffee Conversation at the White Picket Fence in Dulwich.
The following week we will be meeting on Wed. 9th. Sept. for a dinner meeting with Adelaide Parks at the Naval, Military and Air Force Club located on the corner of Hutt and Angus Streets. We are invited to arrive from 5.30 pm and sit down for dinner promptly at 6.15 pm. The cost is $26.00 per head and eftpos is available. The meeting is expected to conclude by 7.45. pm. I will need to know if you are attending by 5.pm. Tues. 8th Sept. please.
I should have mentioned that there is a very attractive snug bar for a pre-dinner drink.
In this edition you will find an invitation from Kirsti inviting you to a Birthing Kit Assembly Event on Monday 28th. Sept. from 6 pm at the Riverside Rowing Club which will include pizza ($5.00 per head) and a cash bar. I hope you can attend for a fun evening and you can invite a friend/s.

The eggs choice is either:
Poached eggs benedict on multigrain toast with smoked leg ham, avocado cream cheese, caramelized tomato and hollanadaise sauce;
OR
Eggs, scrambled, fried or poached, served with caramelized tomatoes, smoky bacon, crispy hash browns and toasts.
They will also provide Danish pastries, juices and tea or coffee.

Jim Whalley is South Australia’s first Chief Entrepreneur.
Jim is the Chair and co-founder of innovative defence industry company Nova Systems.
He is a former air force fighter pilot and test pilot and holds a Master of Business Administration, a science degree and has completed the Harvard Business School OPM Executive Education Program.
Jim is a member of the Sir Ross and Keith Smith Advisory Committee, the council of the University of South Australia, the board of the Adelaide Festival and a non-executive director of Australian Naval Infrastructure. Providing high level, independent advice on entrepreneurship matters.
Riverside Rowing Club (just off Montefiore/Morphett on the Torrens) has been booked so we can gather to package 400 birthing kits for sending to overseas locations like Papua New Guinea.
This combined Adelaide Light Rotary and Adelaide City Rotaract project will facilitate safe births, avoiding needless maternal and infant deaths or disease.
The doors will be open from 6 pm with a cash bar open and pizza served, from 6.30pm for a small cost of $5.00 per head. Once everyone has eaten, the assembly of the birthing kits will commence.
There is a free club car park and the club house has a balcony overlooking the Torrens river.

Now we can be more confident about this Sunday's weather (partly cloudy 16C), we've decided on a BYO picnic in Belair National Park after the bush walks.
Park entry is $12 per car ($9 concession), so the walkers will meet 9:45am at the main park entrance on Upper Sturt Road near the Kirawina Grove corner. To minimise cars/cost, you can park nearby and fill other cars. The easy walkers will head into the park for the walk and later picnic. The Sturt Creek walkers can also minimise cars and head off to the main walk, returning later for the picnic or home. Estimated picnic time is 12:30pm.
If you're staying for the picnic or just the picnic, bring your own food, drink, chair and/or rug to be COVID safe while meeting your needs. The picnic spot has toilets and a playground. Use the attached flyer to invite friends who may enjoy a Rotary good time, children included.

Rotary District 9510 Polio Ute Relay – October/December 2020

Proposal:
To drive a Mazda Polio ute, suitably decorated in Polio and Rotary advertising material, through District 9510 through the 12 District Areas with staging posts to Adelaide.
Starting on Saturday 24th October (World Polio Day). The Polio ute will become the relay baton as it is passed from club/Area to Area finishing in December.
Aims:
To raise public awareness of both Polio and Rotary throughout D9510
To encourage community participation and all clubs’ involvement.
To fundraise for Polio on a larger scale, involving more public donations.
District involvement:
Coordination of the concept
Provision of the ute
Provision of basic promotional materials as needed. Eg. Polio banners, flags, maybe some A4 flyers
Organize the polio Iron lung trailer and display equipment from NSW if possible
Running of the raffle
Establishing a website, Facebook page and other social media needs and advertising
Finding sponsorship
Club/Area Staging posts:
Each Area to organise an event to publicise Rotary’s involvement in eradicating Polio world-wide. This is entirely up to each Area and will depend on what is appropriate for each area. Try to involve the general public. It can be fundraising but doesn’t have to be.
Each Area to organise PR for their own event and the passing on of the Polio Ute (baton). Aim for as much media, radio, TV, press coverage as possible. Use local shops etc to display advertising material.
Each Area to drive the Polio Ute to the next staging post.
Staging Post Events:
These are entirely at the discretion of each staging post. Aim for maximum club participation and general public involvement. There may be many parts to an event:
Arrival or departure of ute involving public, media etc. Could park the ute somewhere prominent or include the Polio Ute in Christmas pageants
Evening event such as dinner, film event, quiz night, concert, community event, BBQ

This is flexible within 3 or 4 days for each staging post and will need to be worked out individually. The following is a guide only. COVID19 restrictions may require modifications.

Saturday 12th December ute arrives Adelaide, Adelaide Light, Adelaide Parks, Adelaide Central, Adelaide City Rotaract, Adelaide Uni Rotaract, Thebarton Senior College Rotaract, D9510 Online, for final event maybe at Adelaide Oval Test Match where the drawing of the raffle will take place.
The Area Governors will co-ordinate the timing of the Staging Post Event activities with the Rotary Clubs in their Areas (Appendix 1 – Clubs by Area) and arrange for the Polio Ute to be driven to the next staging post.
Fundraising:
The main fundraiser will be a raffle, running from 24th October to 12th December, drawn at the final city event. All ticket butts to be returned to the co-ordinator of the raffle so they can be included in the raffle draw.
Details still to be confirmed but thoughts are for averaging 10 tickets per member in each club at $2 per ticket = 21,000 tickets = $42,000 plus donations from a suitably labelled container.
One main prize, 2 minor prizes, 3 lesser prizes, all preferably donated.
Tickets can be sold prior to each event and at each event.
Each club may fundraise through their own event. Each club will credit the Rotary International Foundation Polio Fund Account with their own sales as their donation to the Foundation End Polio Now campaign.
In Summary:
This will be a tremendous opportunity to unite our 85 clubs in District 9510 increase public awareness through 3 different States and Northern Territory of Rotary and its connection to Polio and raise significant funds for the End Polio Campaign.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.
An elderly physician, Doctor Geezer, became very bored in retirement and decided to re-open a medical clinic.
He put a sign up outside that said: "Dr. Geezer's clinic: Get your treatment for $500 - if not cured, get back $1,000."
Doctor Young, who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000, so he went to Dr. Geezer's clinic.
Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me?"
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth."
Dr. Young: “Aaagh! -- This is Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500.”
Dr. Young, very annoyed, goes back after a couple of days figuring to recover his money.
Dr. Young: "I have lost my memory. I cannot remember anything."
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth."
Dr. Young: "Oh, no you don't -- that's Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500."
Dr. Young (now having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.
Dr. Young: "My eyesight has become weak --- I can hardly see anything!"
Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so here's your $1000 back" (giving him a $10 bill).
Dr. Young: "But this is only $10!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You’ve got your vision back! That will be $500."
Moral of story --Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can outsmart an old “Geezer”.
