Nineteen intrepid Adelaide Light Rotarians and Adelaide City Rotaractors ventured to Calperum Station, north of Renmark last Friday to join together and assist in the regeneration of this vast area over the weekend. A few of us had a meal in Renmark Friday night and then travelled together onto Calperum, which was just as well as some of us may never have found our actual beds if left to our own devices! Our supervisor was David Gooley from Mitcham Rotary and on Saturday after breakfast we headed out to remove tree guards and load them into the Ute and trailer, plus remove and load stakes and water some shrubs. It was extremely hot and demanding work in a very arid landscape. After lunch we spent some time unravelling tree guards in the wool shed, but the heat was fairly intense so some rest time was then necessary. On Sunday morning David led the group on a tour of the property to see lakes and tributaries of the Murray, areas where revegetation has and is occurring and high points to obtain overall views.

I would like to personally thank our caterer John Karran who never missed a beat all weekend by supplying delicious morning and afternoon teas, lunches, breakfasts and a delicious evening meal, preceded by a mountain of crabs which he had caught and cooked earlier! He even included sunscreen and aeroguard! And he shopped, prepared and cooked everything so cheerfully.

Thank you to all club members who assisted with the Bunnings BBQ last Monday, especially our volunteer Taylor, who did a double shift. I am not sure how we were able to score another over 35 degree day, but it was extremely hot especially for those working over the hot plate. It was lovely to catch up with Graham Smith who popped by on his way into Bunnings to buy a sausage.
