Last Thursday breakfast’s guest speaking spot from Erfan was excellent an emotional eye opener about how he extricated his family from Kabul and the forsaken state of Afghanistan leaving those behind in dreadful plight. Both Ukraine and Afghanistan equally deserve global refugee support.
Some of us have sent personal donations across to Erfan’s network of families trapped in the aftermath of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. Do let me know if you’d like to be part of this as it is an urgent matter. We can’t directly help with sorely needed security but hunger is another risk now that Afghanistan’s economy is destroyed and we can help there.
On a more mundane level, last Saturday’s tree planting along the River Torrens near the Hackney Rd bridge was most successful - a good example of many hands making light work. About 20 of us got it done in quick time, grateful the rain stayed away. The photos below capture the scene.
Our combined Quiz Night Friday June 3 should be a major fundraiser and a great social event. Tables are progressing well but please contact your friends and book yourselves in here. For our next breakfast meeting on Thursday May 26, Julie is arranging a ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ event as a Cancer Council fundraiser. Meanwhile you can ponder about telling us your “best ever” morning tea/coffee experience - Dean will adjudicate on the winning anecdote. Good quality warm blankets (can be old in good condition, or new)
Sleeping bags (can be old in good condition, or new)
Socks (full length, not ankle) - Men's and Women's (new only)
Please bring in your donations to a breakfast meeting and pass on to John or Rob, or to a community service meeting. There is no set deadline but we will collect for about 1 month or so.
The District Governor’s Partner's project this year is Allkids whose primary objective is to ensure that all children in the Ream Commune of Cambodia, have access to education. Since 2012, AllKids have provided educational services to over 1500 children.
School infrastructure remains basic and there is limited money for maintenance, so AllKids works closely with principals, teachers, and school administration staff to improve learning outcomes for students.
To support Jenny Neale with her Partner's project the Rotary Club of Campbelltown is holding LUNCH AT THE CIVIC on Sunday 5th June; 12pm for 12.30 pm at the Campbelltown Civic Centre.
