Stories
President's Pen
Hi, Rotarians and Friends.

You may remember my 18 December email to you (and newsletter coverage) about Katey’s role in Rotary International's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce.  She presented a workshop to RI’s Board of Directors and Trustees (50-60 people from across the globe) in Orlando, Florida during January.  Katey delivered the 'Creating an inclusive Rotary environment' workshop alongside fellow DEI taskforce members, Jeremy Opperman (South Africa) and Todd Bowtie” Jenkins (US).  See photos below.

Our breakfast meeting last Thursday at the South Terrace Croquet Club was a widely agreed success.  It is a lovely setting in the morning sun and joined by guests Helen and Lilli, we chatted and shared ideas around the table covering the range of our club’s Rotary activities.  It’s a breakfast meeting concept that should work well when combined with monthly dinner meetings, which often use a Guest speaker.

Di and Rob’s Bunnings BBQ team ran another well-oiled ‘grab a snag’ shop on Monday 13th and though business was slow, we turned a profit.  On Saturday 25 February Cuppa Conversation with new Aussies  gets under way again 10 till ~11am at Marshmallow Park on Glen Osmond Road.  Do come along and enjoy conversation with some new Aussies.

Rob took his UK mate, Rob Mason on a walk with 200 others in the inaugural SA
Rotary Fundraiser for Mental Health, Lift The Lid Walk. Starting at Campbelltown Football oval then 5 km along the Torrens River and back.  It raised about $5,000, organised by Campbelltown Rotary with support from Magill Sunrise Rotary supplying a free sausage sizzle for all the walkers.  Rob’s hips fared well (take heart Yvette) and he bumped into a fit looking John Campbell, accompanied by his daughter and grandchild.

For your diaries, the annual Area 12 Dinner will be at the Cathedral Hotel in North Adelaide on Wednesday 29 March - $65 each for a 2 course meal, alternate drop.  More detail eventually.

Meanwhile, our next Coffee Conversation at White Picket is this Thursday from 9:30am.  Then our first dinner meeting in the new format on the fourth Thursday of the month is 6 for 6:15 in a private room at the Kent Town Hotel.  Just come up the stairs and the back of the undercroft car park and the private room is right there.

See you soon.

Best wishes, John

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.
