President's Pen

The Croquet challenge was intense with the Rotaractors winning " back to back ", last Friday evening.

It was a great success with beautiful weather and fifteen participants which included five from Eastwood, five Rotaractors, four Light supporters and myself.

The members of the South Terrace Croquet Club were wonderfully hospitable hosts.

This coming Friday at 3pm. our club celebrates the completion of the landscaping project and erection of the pergola generously donated by Stratco at Catherine House with afternoon tea provided by our hosts.

Also this coming Friday our club begins selling Christmas Trees at Bunnings at Kent Town for the fourth year over the next two weekends. The Rotaractors are helping us with many of the shifts over this Saturday and Sunday.

On Wednesday morning 19th. December, we have been invited to a combined breakfast meeting with Eastwood at the Royal Coach commencing at 7am. for a 7.15am. start which will conclude at 8.15am. Would you be able to let me know please by this Friday if you will be attending, as the venue need to know numbers.

This coming Thursday 6th. is a Coffee Conversation at the Stables at Victoria Park at 9.30am, and although I'm an apology I am told that Graham Smith is hoping to visit, so hopefully there will be a healthy turnup.

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.

Jokes Corner

EATING IN THE FIFTIES and SIXTIES :

Pasta was not eaten in Australia or N.Z.

Curry was a surname.

A takeaway was a mathematical problem.

A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower.

All potato crisps were plain; the only choice we had was whether to put the salt on or not.

Rice was only eaten as a milk pudding.

Calamari was called squid and we used it as fish bait.

A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining.

Brown bread was something only poor people ate.

Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking.

Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green.

Sugar enjoyed a good press in those days, and was regarded as being white gold. Cubed sugar was regarded as posh.

Fish didn't have fingers in those days.

None of us had ever heard of yoghurt.

Healthy food consisted of anything edible.

People who didn't peel potatoes were regarded as lazy.

Indian restaurants were only found in India.

Cooking outside was called camping.

Seaweed was not a recognised food.

"Kebab" was not even a word, never mind a food.

Prunes were medicinal.

Surprisingly, muesli was readily available, it was called cattle feed.

Water came out of the tap. If someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than petrol for it, they would have become a laughing stock!!

But the one thing that we never ever had on our table in the sixties .....

" Elbows or Phones”.
