At last Thursday's Coffee Conversation, it was great to welcome Richard and catch up with David Rowe who said how much he enjoys reading our weekly newsletter to allow him to stay up to date with the club's activities.
Knowing that John the Jeweller will read this I want to extend the club's best wishes to him and trust that he is well on the path to the best of good health. We all miss John's very positive company at our meetings and other gatherings.
In reading the national Rotary Public Image newsletter it prompted me to encourage you to place a very attractive (not tacky) car sticker on your vehicle/s to assist in promoting our wonderful organization. Please let me know if this appeals to you and I will place an order.
On Monday 18th. January, I attended the Area 12 President's meeting which is always interesting hearing the news of the other six clubs as well as the two Rotaract clubs. A guest speaker introduced us to a butterfly project in Victoria Park which the Area 12 may well end up supporting and Dean may be able to invite him to address our club.
The Adelaide Club's Rob Falconer reminded us that the club was experimenting with their first dinner meeting at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday 20th rather than their traditional lunch time meeting due to the large number of members finding it difficult to attend at lunchtime. I wonder if "working from home "has contributed to this issue?
I also met the newly appointed president of the Adelaide University Rotaract Club, Wajan Abumustafa who I invited to join us at one of our breakfasts.
Last Wednesday evening I was the guest speaker at Adelaide Parks dinner meeting at the Naval and Military Club speaking about community radio and the history of radio in SA. It is always interesting to observe how other clubs conduct their meetings in comparison to ourselves and Parks are more formal.
Our next breakfast meeting is this coming Thursday 28th. January followed by our monthly board meeting. Please let me know by Tuesday if you are planning to attend and I have already received four notifications.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting. Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriatepersons. Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computerset up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice. Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting. Rotaract: Meets alternate Mondays at 6pm (for a 630pm start) at the General HavelockHotel in Hutt Street. Bread Run: Sundays, meet outside Romeo's, North Adelaide at 4:55pm

To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.
An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying our airline". He said that, in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment.
Finally, everyone had got off except for a little old lady walking with a cane.
She said,
"Sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?"
"Why, no Ma'am," said the pilot. "What is it?"
The little old lady said, "Did we land, or were we shot down?"
