Stories
President's Pen
Hi, Rotarians and Friends.

Our Club had a busy time last weekend.  Rob, Yvette, Elaine and Di helped rescue Norwood Rotary’s Bunnings BBQ on Friday with a little extra consequently flowing into our Club account.  On Saturday, Rob, Stuart, Vanessa and Paul Ensor beavered away restoring neglected gardens for Catherine House (see photos).

Meanwhile, Yvette and Erfan were boning up on all things Rotary on Saturday and Sunday at the Rotary Leadership Institute course (photo below).  Also on Sunday, ten diners enjoyed Rob’s ‘Lost in a Forest’ pizza afternoon at Uraidla in welcome sunshine.  Coincident timing with the Uraidla Show featured Margie’s strongman son Jordan, hefting a 150kg boulder.

Being spring, Paul Jupp was cleaning out at home and turned up a Rotary banner from his time as Mitcham Rotary’s President in 2015/6 (see photo from last week’s Coffee Conversation).

Our next Bunnings BBQ is next Monday, please also help Rob and Di by volunteering for our Christmas tree sales on three weekends from December 3-18 at Bunnings Kent Town.  It’s usually a good earner for the club and great experience for members and friends, indeed many friends of our club have previously helped us do this one.

The Auld Teapot Sporting Challenge with Adelaide City Rotaract is coming up on Friday evening 9 December.  It’s another croquet match at South Tce. Croquet Club on Beaumont Road in the SE parkland.  Hopefully we wrest back the trophy this year!  Keep the date free and a flyer with more detail will soon be available.

This Thursday’s Club meeting over breakfast at the Terrace features Fred as guest speaker discussing his ‘On the Buses’ experiences.  There’s a ‘Coffee Conversation’ 9:30am Thursday 17 November at White Picket Café.  The subsequent 24 November breakfast meeting is our Club AGM, so let me or Di know if you have a nomination for club management roles.  Our guest speaker then will be the ‘Life of Brian’ (not the Messiah, just a very naughty boy).

Also keep in mind the next Cuppa Conversation’ at Hutt St Cibo, 10-11:30am on Saturday 26 November.

Best wishes, John

Rotary Foundation - 'Giving Tuesday'
We need your help, as a Rotary leader, to raise funds and awareness for The Rotary Foundation this Giving Tuesday, 29 November. This global day of generosity is an opportunity for all Rotary members to make a big impact with a gift of any size to our Annual Fund-SHARE. Last year, we raised more than ever before — over US$1 million! We’re asking you to help us surpass that this year, so that we can do even more good together.

The Foundation will again recognize the top three clubs in fundraising, donor participation, and online giving. Find out which clubs made the list last year and set a giving goal for your club this year. Just make sure that the gifts are made on 29 November.

Thank you for your leadership and support. We know that with your help, Giving Tuesday will be a bigger success than ever.

Sincerely,
The Rotary Foundation

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.
