Our Christmas tree sales are well underway with more trees sold than at the same stage last year and a busier couple of weekends ahead as we lead into Christmas. It’s encouraging to see many repeat customers - one dogged bloke has for several years now ‘donkeyed’ a tree home on his bike (see photos).
Many thanks 👏 to all the helpers on our Club’s varied activities.
Di and Rob are feeling more at ease revenue-wise as our Grange raffle is now brinking on a sell-out; there’s reassuring revenue from several BBQs; and likely tree sale success lies ahead.
Thanks to Kirsti’s crew, it’s also been a busily productive year for community service delivery. So, this Friday’s Christmas party/Auld Teapot event offers a well-earned celebration for us all. It’s expected to be a sunny 26C, so we can expect a lovely evening in the beautiful setting at South Terrace Croquet Club. Paul Ensor has mapped out play with some coaching along the way to help us better enjoy it.
Last week the nine Presidents of the Area 12 portion of District 9510 met. They’re helping to elicit contributions for the joint AdCityRotaract/AdLight project to install and provision a Share the Dignity vending machine to dispense period products at Watto Purrunna Health Service in Port Adelaide. With some interclub co-operation for community benefit, this should be implemented early in 2022.
Also, Katey’s Refugee Mentor Group will soon swing into gear, so that’s one to look out for. Dean has arranged a speaker for our Thursday 16th Dec breakfast meeting at the Terrace Hotel that may help us better understand experiences driving refugees to leave their home. It’s the last breakfast meeting of the year, so do come if you can as the topic will help prepare our club for the empathy refugees need.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.

A burglar broke into a house one Christmas night looking for presents when the family was not home.
He shined his flashlight around, looking, when a voice in the dark said, 'Jesus knows you're here.' He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze.
When he heard nothing more, after a bit, he shook his head and continued. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard 'Jesus is watching you.' Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.
'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot. 'Yep', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he is watching you.' The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?' 'Moses,' replied the bird. 'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?' 'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'
