The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise mourns the loss of its charter President, Brooke Sawyer.
Brooke was also a charter member of the Rotary Club of East Sacramento, and a member of the Montecito club before chartering our club in 1985. He held a perfect attendance record for over 33 years. We could always count on Brooke to remind us of the way we do things in Rotary.
We are very saddened by the loss of a great man and a great Rotarian. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Sawyer family.

DID YOU KNOW?
Most Rotarians are successful professional and business executives because they hear opportunities knock and take advantage of them. Once a week the opportunity for Rotary fellowship occurs at each club meeting, but not all members hear it knocking. The weekly club meeting is a special privilege of Rotary membership. It provides the occasion to visit with fellow members, to meet visitors you have not known before, and to share your personal friendship with other members.
Rotary clubs that have a reputation for being "friendly clubs" usually follow a few simple steps:
First, members are encouraged to sit in a different seat or at a different table each week.
Second, Rotarians are urged to sit with a member they may not know as well as their long-time personal friends.
Third, members invite new members or visitors to join their table just by saying: "Come join us, we have an empty chair at this table."
Fourth, members share the conversation around the table rather than merely eating in silence or talking privately to the person next to them.
Fifth, Rotarians make a special point of trying to get acquainted with all members of the club by seeking out those they may not know.
When Rotarians follow these five easy steps, an entirely new opportunity for fellowship knocks each week. Soon Rotarians realize that warm and personal friendship is the cornerstone of every great Rotary club.

ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 14
Why do I love Rotary? It's simple: Rotarians get things done and have fun doing it. Rotarians take action in their communities locally and around the world. I am proud to look around our community and see the work we've done. I am proud to be part of an organization about to eradicate a disease. This is awesome! And, I enjoy the fellowship of my fellow Rotarians who are also my best friends. These are a few of the reasons I love Rotary and why I proudly wear my I Heart Rotary pin.
I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
By Karen Kawaguchi, Club Service Director
