Tom Heath has been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow +4. A member of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise since 1992, Tom has served in numerous leadership roles, led several community and international projects, and currently serves as International Service Director.
Paul Harris Fellow recognition is given in appreciation to anyone who contributes, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 or more cumulatively to Rotary International's The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant.
Thank you, Tom, for your generous support of The Rotary Foundation!

GOOD TIMES GROW AT THE GARDEN
Eleven Rotarians, family, and friends joined at The Garden in the Public Market for an evening of food and fellowship, in an atmosphere of March Madness.
Thank you, Diana Washburn, for coordinating our gathering and taking photos.
Thank you to the Rotarians who have home hosted our Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Blessed Emurese, Judith and Paul McCaffrey, Chris Baxter and Karen Kawaguchi, and Lisa and Scott Burns. And, thank you to the Rotarians who have hosted her for activities, Judith for holiday cookie baking, Lisa and Scott for a sailing trip and a San Francisco getaway, Bobbie and Jim Ruh for cycling in Santa Ynez and a week in Santa Fe and Vail, Sandra O'Meara for stand up paddle boarding, and Joanne Schoenfeld for a night at the opera!
Blessed will be in Santa Barbara through the end of the school year. Please consider enriching her exchange experience (and yours) by inviting her to join you for a meal or an activity. Contact Scott Burns to make arrangements.

MARCH IS MEMBERSHIP MONTH
The top two reasons people join Rotary are to meet new people and to get involved in their communities. Many of the non-Rotarians you know are looking for the same things. Invite them to help with a service project, attend a networking night, or participate in a club gathering so they can see for themselves how Rotary connects leaders to make positive change.
Consider these potential candidates for membership:
Friends and family members
Business and professional acquaintances
Younger community leaders who are already connected to Rotary through Rotaract, RYLA, peace fellowships, Youth Exchange, and other programs
March is Membership Month, which means it's time to celebrate our Rotary club, our members and the good we do in our community and around the world. It is time to bring new members!
Invite someone you know who would make a good Rotarian. Share this file containing information about who we are and what we do.

The show will feature portraits of grandparents or of significant elders in painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography by junior high and high school artists of Santa Barbara, Goleta,
and Carpinteria.
One of Blessed's drawings has been selected to be in this show. View the exhibit at the Faulkner Gallery during the month of April or come to the opening reception on April 7.
DID YOU KNOW?
In 1955 RI President A.Z. Baker announced a theme, "Develop Our Resources," to serve as Rotary's program of emphasis. Since that time, each president has issued a theme for his Rotary year.
The shortest theme was in 1961-62 when Joseph Abey selected "Act." Other one-word themes were chosen in 1958-59 by Charles Tennent ("Serve") and 1968-69 by Kiyoshi Togasaki ("Participate").
Carl Miller, in 1963-64, had a theme for the times when he proposed "Guidelines for Rotary in the Space Age."
Other "timely" themes were in 1980-81 when Rolf Klärich created "Take Time to Serve" and William Carter in 1973-74 used "Time for Action."
Bridges have been a striking metaphor. Harold Thomas, 1959-60, urged Rotarians to "Build Bridges of Friendship"; William Walk, 1970-71, created "Bridge the Gap"; and Hiroji Mukasa, 1982-83, declared "Mankind is One - Build Bridges of Friendship Throughout the World."
But whether you "Review and Renew," "Take a New Look," "Let Service Light the Way" or "Dignify the Human Being," it is clear that the RI president provides Rotarians with an important annual program of emphasis.
This is one of a series of short articles about Rotary written by Cliff Dochterman, PRIP, and originally published in the Rotary publication, The ABCs of Rotary.

ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 39
I have a colleague who is crazy for sumo wrestling. She regularly watches sumo matches, knows all the athletes, and has been sharing with me for months the latest sumo news. While looking through my pin collection, I remembered I have this sumo Rotary pin! So, this week's pin is in honor of her, my sumo friend.
I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
