Thanks to Scott Burns who ordered and covered the cost of these wonderful "Thank You" signs for all the front line workers who have taken care of us during the COVID-19 shut-down and to Oscar Zavala for helping distribute them. They are $10 each, funds to go to the Club's Foundation.
Contact Oscar if you would like to purchase some signs to deliver to medical centers, fire houses, grocery stores and other front line places of work. They not only show how grateful we are but also are good PR for our Club.

NICARAGUA UPDATE
We heard from our partners at the Rotary Club of Ciudad Sandino this week that the coronavirus is surging there now. As of May 25th, the difficult decision was made to shut down the Nueva Vida Clinic and the Jubilee House/Center for Development in Central America offices at least until June 15. The doctors are at home sick and COVID-19 cases are likely to peak in Ciudad Sandino in the next few weeks. So, patients and staff are being told to stay home.
The Nueva Vida Clinic was not geared up for and had not planned to care for COVID-19 patients. People with coronavirus symptoms were sent to the government hospitals or clinics. However, the clinic staff have been able to deliver medications for the month of June that will be needed by their chronically ill patients.
LOS VOLCANES, MEXICO UPDATE
The Sunrise Club's District Grant project in 2018/19 was to provide a concrete pathway by the school and community center of Los Volcanes, a community near Puerto Vallarta. The community there receives support from various Rotary Clubs locally and abroad. One of their projects is a sewing program. Local women are taught how to sew and they produce an income by sewing uniforms for staff at Puerto Vallarta hotels. But, the tourist industry has come to a full stop as a result of the coronavirus.
The city has the second most coronavirus infections in the state of Jalisco. On April 20th social isolation and mask wearing was made mandatory in the state until further notice. Luz Maria Ortiz Smith recently spent time in Puerto Vallarta and communicated with a Rotarian there who is very involved with Los Volcanes. She suggested that the sewists might consider switching to making face masks instead of uniforms. And so they did!
The sewists are currently producing 600 masks per week. They have been distributed to the Puerto Vallarta police force, Rotary Clubs and people who are passing out food packages around the city. The teachers at Los Volcanes who are running the Food Bank there give a mask to every person who does not have one.

President Sandra will be holding her final board meeting on Tuesday, June 16 at 7:30 a.m. by Zoom when she and her board members will be joined by Incoming President Eric Ryan and his board for a transfer of information and a changing of the guard.

Our last formal club meeting of the year will take place by Zoom on June 17th at 7:30 a.m. when our speaker will be Scot Pipkin from the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.
INTERNATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE MEETING 6/24/20
Hannah will be holding her final committee meeting of the year by Zoom on Wednesday, June 24th, at 7:30 a.m. when we hope to be joined by our partners in Nicaragua to give us an update on the situation there.
SANDRA'S STEP DOWN 6/24/20
On Wednesday evening, June 24th, at 5:30 p.m. Club members will have the opportunity to see outgoing President Sandra roasted at her Step Down. The Step Down team has been working diligently for weeks to make this a Zoom Step Down to remember. Be sure to put it on your calendars!
