CLUB MEETING NOTES 6/3/20

Call to Order: President Sandra called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. Kathleen Rogers gave the invocation and Diana Cecala led the flag salute. For the raffle, Gary Jensen offered two bottles of wine of the winner’s choice from his wine room. The raffle raised $330 and Bill Abel was the winner.
Calendar: Sandra mentioned there would be one more official meeting left after today before the end of her term. She reviewed the calendar:
- 6/17: next official club meeting with speaker Scot Pipkin from the Botanic Garden.
- 6/11: Community Service Committee Meeting at 6:00 p.m.
- 6/24: International Service Committee Meeting at 7:30 a.m.
- 6/10: Membership Committee Meeting at noon
Hannah shared that the principal at the Trinidad Norte elementary school that we visited last August to deliver school supplies had died from COVID-19.
In light of the current protests, Sandra shared an expression of principle from Rotary:
“At Rotary, we have no tolerance for racism. Promoting respect, celebrating diversity, demanding ethical leadership, and working tirelessly to advance peace are central tenets of our work.
We have more work to do to create more just, open and welcoming communities for all people.
We know there are no easy fixes and that challenging conversations and work lie before all of us. Rotary’s strength has long been our ability and commitment to bringing people together. We will tap into that strength now as we stand with those who are working for peace and justice.
Rotary will do our part to listen, learn and take action to ensure that we continue to contribute to making positive change.”
Yard Signs: Oscar reported that all 75 "Thank You Essential Workers" yard signs had been sold. Sandra suggested we consider doing another round and is asking the Community Service Committee to discuss it at their next meeting.
District 5240 Step-Down: will be virtual for DG Savi Bhim on Saturday, June 27th from noon - 1:30 p.m.
RI Convention: cancelled for Honolulu but will be virtual. All Rotarians may participate free of charge. Go on line to register. The schedule is:
- Saturday, June 20: General Session 1: Together, We Connect - 6:00 a.m. – 7:15 a.m. PDT
- Sunday, June 21: General Session 2: Together, We Learn – 6:00 a.m. – 7:15 a.m. PDT
- Monday – Friday, June 22 – 26: featured breakout sessions each day at different times.
Program: President Sandra thanked members of her board and other Rotarians who fulfilled key tasks during the year. She said she has a gift bag that she will deliver and leave at Rotarians’ houses on their porches.
Avenues of Service Directors: each Avenue of Service Director took turns to thank their committees for their hard work during the year.
