Club Culture

Our club is a vibrant organization with nearly 100 members. Our club boasts a diverse mix of ages, genders, and backgrounds, all united by a shared commitment to service. Above all, we take pride in our fun, welcoming, and irreverent culture, making our meetings and events enjoyable for all members.

Club History

In the early 1980s, the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo began discussing the possibility of establishing a second club in the city. By 1983-84, then-President Jack Dewar successfully convinced his board to move forward with the idea. Rotarians Al Rizzoli, Lee Ballati, and Dennis Allen were tasked with forming the new club.

On June 27, 1984, the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa was officially chartered as Rotary Club #21978, starting with 26 members and Dennis Allen serving as its first president.

The Meaning Behind "de Tolosa"

The name "San Luis Obispo de Tolosa" is not only the formal name of the city but also the old mission founded in our city center.  Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is the fifth California mission founded by Father Junipero Serra, September 1, 1772.
