This Week's Meeting
We are looking forward to gathering Friday morning as we resume our regular meetings at the School District's Administration Building Community Room. There's always much fun and who knows- a Classification talk or two might break out!

Friday evening we are having our Christmas Party at Penn Cove! If you want to go and haven't told organizer Reshal, send her a quick message letting her know you're coming. Details were sent to members in a separate email. Bring your Family and Friends! There's an ugly sweater contest AND a white elephant gift exchange. Thanks Reshal for organizing this.

Members were recently sent dues statements. Please take care of these in a timely fashion.

The link to our YouTube Channel is now available on our website and our weekly bulletins. You can view recent online meetings. If you watch any of them, you can count it as a makeup. Just let our Secretary, Gary O'Rielly know.
District Governor David Lukov Visit
District Governor-Elect Dave Duskin introduces our guest speaker, District Governor Davidk Lukov at Friday, November 17th meeting. Each year, the District Governors visit each Club in District 5050. After his remarks, he took time to welcome a new member Daniel Volkert with his badge and membership packet and Certificates of Appreciation to Loren Hole and Gary O'Rielly for their dedication to Rotary.

During his visit with our Club, the District Governor talked about examples of leadership refering three individuals in years past who were effective leaders because of their learning and training experiences, another spoke about how she learned from people around her and another who said his leadership was based on luck. When you think in this day of institutions such as Toastmasters, experience doesn't mean anything to do with age. How about vision and self-discipline and knows how to be quiet when it is necessary to listen to others.

Leadership

You are not a leader until you have luck or opportunity. Use the skill set offered by Rotary. That is what, Rotary instills in all of us. There are lots of courses in leadership that are available to us through Rotary International. He cited YAIL and RYLA which offer some important leadership skills and confidence as well as training to young people. Rotary helps build leaders and that is why we gather here today. David has been in six Rotary Clubs. When he arrived in Mt. Vernon, he looked around and decided to go to the noon Club. He talked about the round table where the elderly members sit and enjoy one another's company. Shared some of his experiences attending three meetings and a evening social with a couple of super-stars in Mt. Vernon Rotary who wanted to know more about David Lukov and his story. That is when he decided he belonged. That is when you feel apart of a family and that is the Rotary story.

He spoke of a different District Conference concept for this year's Conference that will be held on May 4th and be at Mt. Vernon High School. This conference will be all about children and youth and a one day conference although two other day options are available. Cost for the one day conference is $100.  Another option on May 3rd, is the first annual District Bowling event. So much more to offer. Check it out.

HOW DOES THE ROTARY FOUNDATION RECOGNIZE ROTARY CLUBS?
Donations to the Foundation are essential to securing and expanding our programs throughout the world. We recognize with gratitude clubs that make extraordinary contributions.
  • 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club: These are clubs in which all dues-paying members are Paul Harris Fellows. The club receives a banner. This is a one-time recognition, but the intent is that the club will maintain its status.
  • 100% Foundation Giving Club: This banner is given to clubs that have an average of US$100 in per capita giving and in which every dues-paying member donates at least $25 during the year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, the Endowment, or approved global grants.
  • Every Rotarian, Every Year Club: This banner is awarded to clubs that have a minimum Annual Fund contribution of $100 per capita during the year and in which every dues-paying member personally contributes at least $25 to the Annual Fund in that time period.
  • Top Three Per Capita in Annual Fund Giving: These banners are presented each year to the three clubs in each district with the highest per capita Annual Fund giving.
  • 100% Paul Harris Society Club: This banner is awarded to clubs in which every dues-paying member contributes at least $1,000 during the year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved global grant.
  • 100% Rotary’s Promise Club: These are clubs in which every dues-paying member supports the Endowment with an outright gift of $1,000 or more or a commitment of at least that amount in an estate plan. These clubs receive a certificate upon request.
