This Week's Meeting
The meeting this week will honor Veteran's in our community.

Last week we heard from Cyndi Whitsell about the Lake Stevens Historical Museum. If you missed it, read the recap below and you can watch the presentation at our YouTube channel.

Thursday is Veteran's Day. The Rotary Club of Lake Stevens honors those that have served in America's Armed Forces for the past 246 years including several in our own Club. Many of us also have family members that have served. And, Lake Stevens is honored to host families that are stationed at Naval Station Everett as part of our Nation's front line of defense. Please make sure to thank a veteran for the freedoms you have today.

The link to our YouTube Channel is now available on our website and our weekly bulletins. You can view recent online meetings. If you watch any of them, you can count it as a makeup. Just let our Secretary, Gary O'Rielly know.

PHOTO CONTEST: You are encouraged to participate in this. The photo has been updated. Can you guess the location now? Be the first person to correctly identify from where the photo at the top of our website and at the top of this bulletin was taken from by 7:30 am Friday, November 12th. Send your guess to the Editor.

Lake Stevens Historical Museum
Our guest speaker on Friday, November 5th was Cyndi Fraser representing the Lake Stevens Historical Museum. The Museum is trying to preserve the history of Lake Stevens. Collecting stories about Lake Stevens is important to the Museum. In 1957, stories from old time residents were collected including the book by Jim Mitchell. Sources from residents such as photo albums, newspaper clipping were just as important. Once the local newspaper closed in Lake Stevens, it has been challenging maintaining a continuing story of Lake Stevens.

Photos from 1923 of a family riding a canoe in North Cove Park and the Sailboat races were important pictures provided by Cyndi during her presentation. A Lake Calendar is published each year as a source of revenue and income for the Museum. The original name of Lake Stevens was Stevens Lake in honor of our first Governor in 1893. Early Lake Stevens listed over 13 different resorts.

Sailboat races ended with the advent of power boats and the photo above is of Davies Park. Cyndi will return in January for more on the Lake Stevens Historical Museum. Great program with very interesting photos from the past.
Aquaponics Project
Our guest speaker on Friday, October 29th was President Nominee Don Iverson talking about his Aquaponics Project which is a circulating water system where inexpensive fish food is all that is needed for growing fish as well as fruits and vegetables. Aquaponics is similar to hydronics but without the need for manufactured plant nutrients and frequent water replacements.  Here are a series of slides that describes his amazing project. above.

Don likes gardening and fishing, but both require a lot of his time. Plus, he enjoys learning about new projects. There are several Rotary Clubs in the United States and internationally that are involved in aquaponics.
So, it is obvious, that Don's aquaponics project is deeply involved but an enjoyable project worth all his efforts.  The fish tank is 120 gallons and the system is finished.  Thanks Don for viewing an new project that many of us were unaware of prior to your presentation.
